Road rage Denbighshire taxi driver has licence revoked

The furious cabbie swore at a trucker after taking issue with his driving at a roundabout

A taxi driver has had his licence revoked after being involved in a road rage incident with a tanker driver.

Denbighshire County Council’s licensing committee decided his actions “clearly exhibited a capacity to lose his temper” and the public should be protected from such behaviour.

Members were told the taxi driver, who has not been identified, took issue with the way the tanker had been driven at a roundabout and after dropping his passengers off returned to see the tanker driver. When the tanker driver refused to speak to him the taxi driver swore at him.

When he appeared before the committee he accepted he had acted inappropriately but felt he had been bullied by the tanker driver.

He denied he had been ushered away from the site where the tanker had stopped, and he claimed he regularly witnessed traffic incidents without retaliating.

His solicitor told the committee he was ”not prone to road rage” and was willing to apologise to the tanker driver.

Revoking his licence “on public safety grounds”, the committee said his version of events was not entirely credible and even when questioned about the incident he had struggled to control his anger.

“The committee had not been persuaded that it was an isolated incident and could take no assurance that the incident would not be repeated in the future in similar circumstances, which placed members of the public at risk,” said the committee minutes.

Members also noted the driver had disregarded a previous warning 15 months earlier and his conduct “reflected badly on the trade and the council”.

The committee disregarded the effect revocation of the licence or suspension would have on the men’s livelihood and family circumstances as it was not considered relevant when looking at his character and fitness as a driver.

As a matter of interest; How long is a "warning" allowed to stay active for disciplinary purposes?

Around here it is 12 months.

It does seem a bit harsh to me. I believe any warnings in our area are 'live' for two years.

here you get penalty points which stay on the license (vehicle or driver) for 12 months but under the penalty point system he wouldn't have lost his badge but would have got 6 points

had that been the only occasion i think you could argue for it being a one off. it does raise the question though that is a fit of bad temper violent behaviour ?
