A TAXI driver has spoken of the terrifying moment a thuggish motorist blocked his car in the road before punching a tooth out of his mouth.

The taxi driver from Heybridge, who asked not to be named, was looking for the entrance to Chigborough Fisheries in Goldhanger Road where he was due to pick up a passenger, when a motorist became angry behind him.

He said: “I was going along at around 30mph because I didn’t know where the entrance was and it was quite dark, and the driver behind me began sounding his horn and flashing his lights. I reached the Mill Beach pub and pulled into the layby to let him go by, but he pulled up beside me shouting at me, calling me various horrid names.

“When I pulled away again he drove in front and blocked the way.

“I pulled up alongside and asked why he was getting so angry, but he had none of it, got out of his car and punched me several times and spat on me.

“It gave me lots of bruising and knocked a tooth out. I was so frightened, it gave me a lump the size of a baseball on my face.

“There were several cars stopped behind us, but none got out to help or check if I was ok after he drove off.”

The victim was treated at Broomfield Hospital before being discharged that evening.
