A taxi marshal service which operates in Southport town centre is set to return all year round.

The popular service has previously been run over Christmas and New Year but, thanks to Southport BID, it will now run every weekend and during major events.

The scheme employs taxi marshals in high visibility jackets to provide extra peace of mind to residents looking to return home by taxi after a night out.

Marshalls will help to ensure that only legal and registered hackney carriages and private hire vehicles are operating in the town and will also help maintain an orderly queue for the taxis throughout the night.

They will be equipped with body worn cameras and radio devices while working in the town cente.
