London Mayor to answer vital language test concernsTrade representatives from the Private Hire and Chauffeur industry will be attending City Hall tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd March) to hear answers on the controversial TfL Language Tests.
Licensed Private Hire Car Association (LPHCA) members have been lobbying Assembly Members and MPs about the nature of the test, which they say is clearly designed for purposes other than assessing the suitability for being a Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) driver, (Minicab, Chauffeur or Social Services).
Sadiq Khan will be asked during the Mayors Question Time; “Will the Mayor reconsider plans to force Private Hire drivers to sit a written English test and instead make the required test an oral one?”
Following the launch of the tests in October 2016, applicants for a Private Hire license have to undergo an English language test to prove their abilities and submit the qualification to TfL. The tests have been deemed as not fit for purpose and the industry association is now calling for them to be scrapped.
