Lauren Delaney said she heard the sound of a chainsaw when the clown came out of a bush at her in Meadow Nook, Boulton Moor, on Wednesday, at 8pm.
She said she couldn't be certain that the person actually had a chainsaw or whether it was a recorded noise.
Now taxi driver Stanislaw Kulach has said he saw a person matching a similar description and carrying an object that could have been "some kind of saw" when he was driving his taxi a few minutes later.

Mr Kulach said he spotted the clown at the roundabout where Shardlow Road meets Chellaston Road, near the A6.
He said: "He had something in his hand that he seemed to be scraping the road. As I drove past I was driving towards Alvaston and he was on the right-hand side of the roundabout.
"I saw him straight away and I decided to go back but when I got back he had disappeared - I think into the trees.
"He had a big red nose, a hat on. I'd say he was about 170cm tall."
A craze of clowns terrorising innocent victims crossed over from the Atlantic and reached Derby in October last year.
Mr Kulach, 38, of Appian Way, Alvaston, said: "It was scary. You didn't know what he was planning to do. I think some people are lying and some people are not about these clowns but I know this one exists.
"I don't think it's funny. If it was my wife that the clown had scared, I wouldn't find it funny."
From Meadow Nook to where Mr Kulach saw the clown is about 10 minutes walk if the clown took the quickest route. Mr Kulach said he called the police about what he saw.
Miss Delaney, an NHS family support worker, had told how she had been holding her two-year-old son, Harry, in her arms when the clown came from a bush at her.
She previously said: "I pulled up and heard what seemed like a recorded laugh of a clown - like the Joker - then a man jumped out of a hedge dressed as a clown and I heard what sounded like a chainsaw.
"It was quite dark. I assume it was a man because the person was quite big. He was dressed in a full clown costume. He had a red wig and, if he wasn't wearing a mask, he had full facial make-up on.
"The chainsaw could have been faked but it was the noise that scared us the most. If it was just a man in a clown costume it might not have freaked me out so much."
Miss Delaney was able to run into a house. The clown went away and Miss Delaney called her mother who suggested she ring the police.
Police have since confirmed they are investigating the circumstances behind the incident.
