Taxi drivers angry at costly 'enforced' card machines Taxi drivers in Jersey are angry at government plans forcing them to install card machines in their cars, which they would have to pay for. The technology can cost more than £200, but the Transport Minister could sign proposals off in the next two weeks. Currently, only around 25 out of 150 rank taxis have a card facility. Many drivers think the machines boost business, but others are saying "we don't want it". However, there is widespread support from taxi drivers at the Airport. There is no cash point at arrivals and Chris Gouyette, from Jersey Taxi Drivers Association, says drivers have already made they move because they realise some passengers "need" the machines. Jersey Airport has told ITV News they are planning to install a new cash point at arrivals within three months. But, if plans go ahead all taxis will have to have a card machine by the end of October. Private hire cab companies say most of their cars have card machines and they aim to have all drivers equipped with them soon. source: http://www.itv.com/news/channel/2017-04 ... -machines/ |

I can't imaging anywhere in the UK, other than maybe London, that has a higher proportion of extremely rich people than Jersey. Only a fool would want to drive a cab there that doesn't take cards. |

I used to get asked once or twice a month am now paying through the nose for a cc machine and have done just 1 card transaction since xmas people will only use credit card if it is Cheaper than cash or the same as cash but they get cashback off the card credit card companies expect businesses to accept less money on transactions on the promise of more work but you will only convert customers not gain extra trade and the bankers are making tons of cash out of you |

The money is usually in my banks 3/4 days later. |

Not wishing to advertise for anyone but I use CabApp for CC jobs. You can download it on your mobile and it's quite easy to use. You get paid within 24 hours direct into your bank account. Only issue I have had is with Visa cards which need more processing and can cause issues. |

To resolve the issues buy the card reader (one off payment) and it's all sorted. |
