Wannabe cabbies kicked out of taxi driving exam for cheating - and they weren't very subtle about it

Both had their applications for licences refused by Tameside council

Two wannabe cabbies were booted out of a taxi driving exam for cheating - after one was caught with the answers scrawled on his arm and another was heard ‘asking Siri’ for help on his phone.

Unsurprisingly, both had their applications for licences refused by Tameside council.

The pair were in a group of around a dozen people taking a local knowledge test in Stalybridge as part of the authority’s application process on Wednesday.

Shortly into the exam, invigilators spotted a candidate with writing across his forearm.

On closer inspection, it turned out the words were answers to questions the man thought may have come up in the test. He was asked to leave.

It wasn’t long before testers picked up on more suspicious behaviour when another candidate was heard reading questions out loud.

It was discovered he was asking Siri – Apple’s personal digital assistant – on his iPhone for help. He too was kicked out of the exam.

Ian Saxon, assistant director for environmental services at Tameside council, said the incidents highlighted why people should only ever use licensed taxis.

He said that before people are granted a licence, they must go through a rigorous screening process, which includes criminal and driving licence checks.

They also have to show basic communication and language skills, literacy, the ability to give the correct change and local route knowledge.

Mr Saxon said: “These checks are in place to make sure people are who they say they are and so that you know when you get in a taxi, the person sitting in front of you is fit and proper to do what you expect of them and can deal with the every day situations they come across.

“You wouldn’t let just anyone take your mum or children home. That is why it’s so important to always use a licenced vehicle.

“If you don’t, you aren’t insured and you haven’t got a clue who is driving you – it could be one of these two men who tried to cheat their way through the exam.”

Thick as pigs sh**.

Why not memorise what you have learnt instead of writing it on your arm?

Some people really do need to make a bit more of an effort to get licensed.

Only cos some areas/firms run on starvation rates.

Up the money and standards of drivers will improve.
