Court upholds decision to revoke taxi operator’s licenceYork Magistrates Court has upheld Selby District Council’s decision to revoke a Taxi Driver’s Operator’s Licence, for employing an unlicensed Private Hire Taxi Driver and failing to maintain adequate records of bookings.
In December 2016, following an investigation carried out by the Council’s Enforcement Section, the Licensing Committee of Selby District Council took the decision to revoke an Operator’s Licence for employing a taxi driver who did not hold a valid Private Hire Driver’s Licence and failing to maintain adequate records of bookings.
The Operator, Michael Shooter of Tower Taxis, aged 47 years old, of Commercial Street, Tadcaster made an Application to York Magistrates Court appealing the Committee’s decision.
The Appeal Hearing took place on 19 April at York Magistrates Court. The Court rejected Mr Shooter’s appeal and awarded the Council £795.00 in costs.
The Council takes the licensing of taxi drivers, operators and their vehicles very seriously and recommends that all licensed operators and drivers remind themselves of their responsibilities and duties under their granted licence.
The Council’s Taxi Licensing Policy sets out the standard and requirements expected from those that have been granted licences to ensure the safety of the public and of the licensed driver. If an operator or driver is found to be in breach of the policy and the conditions of their licence then the Council will take enforcement action. The Taxi Licensing Policy can be found on the district Council website.
When Minster FM called Tower Taxis this afternoon we were told the company was now under new management and no further comment would be made about the case
