PCS Chauffeurs and seven defendants to stand trial for alleged car clocking and vehicle fraud conspiracy

Professional Chauffeur Services – ‘PCS’ – which is the UK preferred chauffeur service to Emirates Airline, is to stand trial following a “complex and substantial” two year investigation by Warrington and Halton Trading Standards.

The case dates back to July 2013, when PCS Chauffeurs were raided by trading standards with support from Cheshire Police when a warrant was executed at their premises – Fairoak Lane, Runcorn, Cheshire.

Following the investigation on the 19th August 2015, seven individuals along with PCS Events Limited appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court to be charged in connection with an alleged car clocking and vehicle fraud conspiracy. Due to the seriousness of the charges magistrates transferred the case to Chester Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on the 14th December 2015.

On the 4th March 2015, PCS Chauffeurs along with seven defendants appeared at Chester Crown Court to enter pleas and for the second case management hearing. All defendants appeared in person to enter pleas of not guilty, resulting in a trial date being set for the 9th January 2017, the first date available at Chester Crown Court for the expected 6 weeks needed for the trial of the seven defendants and PCS Events Limited, the Limited company behind PCS.

All the defendants were represented by their own legal teams and charged with two counts of fraud, including conspiring together to allegedly defraud leasing companies and members of the public by means of reducing the mileage on vehicle odometers. The defendants included the owner of PCS Chauffeurs, Mr John Murphy, 66 of Deganwy Road, Conway, Murphy’s stepson Mr Paul Arslanian, 37, also of Conway and finally Murphy’s daughter Ms Laura Jane Murphy, 27 of Long Lane, Chester.

Also joining the Murphy family in court were; PCS Chauffeurs transport manager Christopher Graham Lunt, 37, also of Long Lane Chester, accountant Mr Kevin Paul Batty, 55, of Greenroyd Court Sutton in Craven, former Mercedes mechanic and PCS’ in-house mechanic Mr Trevor Gareth Jones, 57, of Albert Road, Colwyn Bay and finally Simon Richard Williams of Fluin Lane Frodsham.

PCS chauffeurs employs around 250 staff from their Runcorn operation, running a fleet of around 150 vehicles, predominantly Mercedes vehicles. The chauffeur company provides services to a number of blue-chip clients with their largest client being Emirates Airline.

The head of a criminal gang who ran a chauffeur company for first and business-class passengers of Emirates Airlines was jailed for three years yesterday for his role in a serious fraud.

John Murphy, 68, was in charge of a conspiracy to “clock” cars at Professional Chauffeur Services (PCS), Liverpool crown court was told.
