since when did councils give a damn about anything but their revenues

A meeting of the city’s taxi drivers has been called amid fears that people throwing stones at vehicles could cause a serious accident.

It follows an incident in Woodhouse on Saturday night during which a Leeds taxi driver was said to have suffered facial injuries when items were thrown at his car.

Coun Javaid Akhtar, who represents Hyde Park and Woodhouse, said: “The driver was injured and the vehicle was damaged. What if it happened when he had customers in the car and he lost control?”

He said tonight’s meeting was open to all private hire and hackney carriage drivers.

“A number of drivers have brought this to my attention,” he said. “I want to hear their experiences and understand where the hotspots are.”

Coun Akhtar said he then planned to seek a meeting with police to share the information.

The meeting will be held at Woodsley Road Community Centre in Hyde Park at 6pm.
