A mum and baby were in the back of a taxi when a man opened the vehicle door and gripped the shoulder of her son.

The mother and her one-year-old child were sitting in the back of the cab at the A1825 junction with Bridge Road, Yarm Lane and Riverside Road, in Stockton , when the incident happened.

The pair were in the back seat of the vehicle with the baby strapped in with a seatbelt.

Three men, described as being of East European appearance, were standing on the road near Halfords, when one of them came from behind the vehicle and opened the rear door.

A police spokeswoman said: “He then placed his gripped hand onto the shoulder of the child, then let go and walked across the road to the other two males who all walked off along Bridge Road towards Victoria Bridge.”

The man responsible is described as being dark skinned, between 25 to 30 years old, of thin build, with short cropped black hair and wearing all black clothing.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the suspicious incident, which took place at around 5pm, on Sunday, June 11.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on (0800) 444111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
