A woman hit by a taxi in Clifton has died.

The 79-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by the car in St Paul's Road.

Police put out an appeal on Monday, July 10, one month after the incident took place, appealing for witnesses to come forward.

On Tuesday, July 11 it was confirmed the woman died in hospital.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The woman was injured when a taxi was in collision with her in St Paul's Road, Clifton at about 2.15pm on Saturday, June 10.

"She was initially taken to the BRI and then later admitted to Southampton General Hospital.

"She died in hospital last night."

Police are trying to trace the taxi involved and are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or who can help with the investigation to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Peter Trutch at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5217156190."

Very sad news.

Was it really a taxi?

If so why has the driver not come forward?

Is the reason due to him being guilty of an offence, or is it due to him not wanting to be automatically assumed guilty because he was merely driving a cab at the time?

that's a little naive ! it has happened round here more than once the trade keeps their mouths shut to prevent one of their number getting caught.
