How much has fuel gone up by in the last 12 months? (10%)

How much did your Council Tax go up by?

Inflation 2%? JOe Stalin said there was no such evil in the USSR

I bet the councillors who veto a decent increase in Taxi fares (anywhere) who fret about OAP's affording increased fares, are the same councillors who sanction OAP's being banged up for non payment of Council Tax?

A bit steep all in one go perhaps. Maybe if it were spread over the next couple of fare increases it might be more acceptable.

The 8% figure is roughly comparable to the general inflation figure for the period since the last fare increase, so it's not exhorbitant. The real problem is that there have not been regular yearly fare increases, which would have been much lower. They would also have been much more in line with the anual inflation figures and thus not have attracted so much adverse publicity.

Omitting an anual fare adjustment is false economy and nearly always compounds the problem at the next fare review. :oops:

Now stop fibbing Oily. :^o

Just remember unlike your fellow drivers at harringey cars, we can't all go out and buy nice N reg peugeot 309 hatchbacks for £500.

We in the Borders have a £1.30 start before 6pm and a£2 after,plus £1.20 a mile, but we have put in for and have got an extortionate fair rise.
from 6am to midnight it will be £2.00 start and £1.30 a mile and from midnight to 6am and all weekend £3.00 plus £1.30 a mile.
But we have had to go to the traffic commissioner because the council have passed it, and cannot do anything until the commissioner has made his decision.
Why you may ask??/, well there are 4 zones in the Borders and 3 of them where not asked as to how much they wanted so it was left up to 8 drivers (2 from the same company who drew up the rise) from 120 so that is over a 75% against the rise, all they want is a £2.00 start and £1.30 a mile with no extra charges at all

Had a quick look at the present tariff (4th August 2003) and noticed that the running mile works out at approximately £1.238 :shock:

How on earth can a fare review be negotiated on those sort of figures.? Astounding - how do the meter manufacturers interpret that lot I wonder. :?

I suspect last time they increased by a % not by a fixed amount. Thus the meter clicks over just after the mile.

Or something like that. :roll:

But remember that there were quite hefty rises a few years ago, so maybe costs haven't caught up on that yet?

And it's not that long since a £1 premium was added to late night weekends, on top of the premium already in operation.

And how do you compute the appropriate rise anyway. Is it:

- for someone renting a car/plate at extertionate rates;
- someone who paid £40k for a plate;
- someone who got a plate gratis;
- someone forced to run a WAV rather than a saloon;
- free/paid plate for the WAV, as above;
- someone not relevant to any of the above but forced into the PH market and thus forced to pay an office, and who charges the metered taxi fares.

And doesn't Brighton have a fare formula anway, so why the issue at all?

That's a point, how much does the fare formula say the increase should be I wonder? :oops:

Or is that where the 8% figure actually came from.
