Taxi 'shot at with BB gun' while in city, driver says

A taxi driver has said he feels 'vulnerable' after reportedly being shot at with a BB gun while driving in the city. Majid Mohammed, 35, a self-employed taxi driver for DG Cars, was ferrying two passengers - a man and a woman - on Sunday evening when the incident happened.

Mr Mohammed, of Humber Road, Beeston, was travelling along Huntington Street between 10pm and 11pm, near the Mansfield Road junction with Woodborough Road. He said he was in the middle lane and there were two or three cars coming towards him when what he believes to be a BB gun was fired towards his vehicle. The projectile went into his car through an open window, "skimmed" the back of Mr Mohammed's head and hit the male passenger's ear in the back of the car - however he has been unable to find the object.

No one was injured and Nottinghamshire Police said enquiries are ongoing to distinguish the exact "nature of the incident". Mr Mohammed, who has three children, said the incident has left him feeling "vulnerable". "It hit him [the passenger] with quite some pressure," he said. “I’ve been looking for the shell in my car but, because there’s that many holes around it, I couldn’t seem to find it. I believe it was a pellet. It was a BB gun or a blank shell.

"It’s made me feel very vulnerable because this time it was the passenger. I’ve got small children – a 14-year-old son, a 13-year-old daughter and a four-year-old daughter as well. "They could have been in the car and it could have happened while I was with my kids and wife."

He added: "When the pellet was fired I looked back at my customers to see if they were OK. I looked back in my car and two or three cars went by me. "I couldn’t get the car registration or allocate which car it was. "It could have caused him some serious damage. It could’ve caused me some serious damage because it skimmed the back of my head and hit him in the ear."

Mr Mohammed said after the incident happened he drove to Texaco petrol station, in Hucknall Road, which he thought was a safe location. He said he rang his brother to who called the police while he made sure his passengers were safe. "I made my brother ring the police and get them to assist me at Texaco petrol station in Hucknall Road. “While he was liaising with the police I was assisting the customers to make sure of their safety and we were in a safe position."

A force spokesman said: "Nottinghamshire Police was called at around 11pm on Sunday, October 15, to a report of something hitting the occupant of a car through an open window in Huntington Street. "Officers attended and spoke with the driver of the car. "Enquiries are on-going to establish the nature of the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, quoting incident number 946 of October 15. The Post has contacted DG Cars for a comment.

On a completely different matter, I'm amazed that wording on his roof light is permitted on a PH vehicle.
