Banned Cornwall coach operator hit pedestrians and carried pupils in vehicle with tyres that could have blown out

A Cornish coach operator whose bus hit pedestrians in a busy city centre has lost his licence to carry passengers after the industry regulator said he was “clearly in the habit of putting passengers and the public at serious risk”.

The Traffic Commissioner found that Trevellyan Jackett was driving a coach carrying pupils with seriously defective tyres which could have led to a blow-out, had three vehicles with "safety critical defects", including a fire risk and a floor that was likely to collapse. One of his buses had hit pedestrians, leaving two injured, one seriously, and another lost a wheel which then hit another vehicle on the Tamar Bridge.

Mr Jacektt, 33, who traded as Jackett’s Coaches and was authorised to run eight vehicles under his licence from premises in Callington and Gunnislake, was also disqualified from acting as a transport manager anywhere in Europe for two years by the Traffic Commissioner.

Kevin Rooney, the commercial vehicle industry regulator, made the orders after holding a public inquiry in Bristol on October 16.

Mr Jackett told the Traffic Commissioner he had ceased operating ahead of the hearing.

The inquiry was called after an investigation by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) into Mr Jackett’s vehicle safety standards.

Maybe he has decided to spend 10 minutes getting an online Wolverhampton PH license and will work Uber locally.
