To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether proposed statutory guidance on taxi and private hire vehicle licensing will include a requirement for all drivers to undertake disability equality training.

The draft Accessibility Action Plan is currently being consulted upon, the Department will review and consult on best practice guidance for taxi and PHV licensing authorities, which will include strengthened recommendations on supporting accessible services.

The statutory guidance issued under section 177 of the Policing and Crime Act 2017 will not include a requirement for all taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers to undertake disability equality training as this is beyond the scope of the legislation which is to “protect children, and vulnerable individuals who are 18 or over, from harm.”

Interesting that the Gov don’t view disabled people as vulnerable.

Proves the point that those making decisions have different meanings for certain words to the mass educated population.

Being disabled does not automatically make you vulnerable and vice versa....they are not the same thing though some people may be both you, yet you can have vulnerable people without a Disability.

Does not mean we all need to go on a course to learn the bleeding obvious, and if your of an inconsiderate and uncaring disposition then no amount of training courses will change your basic attitudes to the disabled or the vulnerable.

I'm courteous and considerate to all, I just am, it's not something you can train into to people, you either are or you aint.

nah I'm with Bloodnock on this not all disabled people are vulnerable

for instance would you say oscar pistorius was vulnerable ?
