http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uber-drivers-sexual-offences-private-hire-cars-london-commit-half-2016-harassment-abuse-taxi-app-a8060766.html

Figures from the police, compiled by Transport for London, show that the number of taxi and private hire journey-related sexual offences hit 164 in the capital last year, of which 30 cases were rape

Almost half of all drivers working for a private hire or taxi operator that were convicted of a sexual offence in London last year were driving for Uber, new data from the Metropolitan Police has revealed.

Figures from the police, compiled by Transport for London, show that the number of taxi and private hire journey-related sexual offences hit 164 in the capital last year, of which 30 cases were rape, up from a total of 136 in 2015, of which 28 were classed as rape.

Not all of those cases resulted in a charge, but of the 34 that did, 26 cases happened in licensed private hire cars that were booked via one of 13 different operators.

No licensed black cab driver was charged. are you reading this trotsky

rest of story is boring twaddle trying to justify the results

I know London is big and busy etc etc, but those numbers are really really bad and sad.

Surely our trade, albeit the London PH trade, can be better than that?

And just think 1000s of those London PH drivers are now infesting the provinces.

What it actually says is the majority of sex offences are caused by non uber drivers !
But the headline 'less likely to be raped in an uber than any other firm' doesn't sell as many papers

No all the other firms put together are approx half of ubers total if you ranked it all by company uber would be top of the table

I think maybe this thread could be made a sticky after all it is carrying a very important safety message :D

This is probably the most important part of the piece, but not included above:

Quote:
According to TfL data cited by Uber in response to Friday’s numbers, there were 116,595 private hire driver licences in London in December last year, of which 63,656 were registered with Uber, meaning that 55 per cent of licensed private hire drivers are registered with Uber.

Offences committed by Uber drivers were therefore broadly in-line with the company’s market share.

So Uber no better and no worse than any other private hire firm in London.

Who'd have thunk it? #-o
