Man in court charged with attempted murder after taxi driver stabbed
A man has appeared in court after a taxi driver was stabbed in Rusholme.
Christopher Smethurst, of no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon following the attack earlier this month.
The 31-year-old has also been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence in connection to a separate incident that allegedly took place in Crewe on Tuesday, November 21.
Smethurst appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 23, and was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on December 21.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Ruskin Avenue in Rusholme on November 11 to reports of a stabbing.
A 42-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
He has since been discharged.
