another Naive councilAnglesey bosses have said they will investigate why some cabbies are travelling hundreds of miles to the island to get taxi licences despite living and working in other UK cities.
The pledge comes after it emerged that a number of cab drivers licensed by Anglesey council had been found using the plates to work in cities as far afield as Sheffield and London.
According to the national Licenced Taxi Drivers Association, Anglesey’s name “keeps popping up” when operations are done targetting drivers using out-of-town plates.
It is not known why cabbies who do not live or work on the island should be going there to get licensed, but there are concerns that it may be that some taxi drivers who had had licences revoked by other authorities were coming to councils like Anglesey to get fresh ones.
It is known that the standards drivers are required to meet on Anglesey are lower than in places like Sheffield.
Anglesey council said it had already revoked a number of licences that were being misused.
