Police probe report of ‘fake’ Dundee taxi driver Police are investigating reports of an unlicensed taxi operating in Dundee. It comes after a social media post went viral – with a local taxi driver taking to Facebook to warn members of the public that he feared an undocumented taxi was operating in the city. The post, by Jimmy Harris, said he had encountered the alleged unlicensed driver on a taxi rank outside the DCA and had asked to see the man’s licence. The man then reportedly told Mr Harris he was working freelance before producing “some sort of fake taxi badge”. The taxi driver then alerted nearby police officers and made an official complaint. He also voiced fears that unlicensed taxis could be a potential risk for locals. A police spokesman confirmed they had launched a probe into the report of the alleged unlicensed driver. He said: “Police Scotland can confirm that it received a complaint from a Dundee taxi driver on January 28 in relation to a potentially unlicensed taxi operating in the city centre. “Inquiries are ongoing into any potential licensing issue.” Graeme Stephen, chairman of Dundee Taxi Association, said the incident was a “serious matter”. |
