Prime Minister says Uber ‘got things wrong’

Chauffeur Magazine

The Prime Minister used her speech at the world summit today (25 January) to highlight how Uber ‘got things wrong’.

Theresa May criticised the car hailing app by saying it failed to report crimes carried out by its drivers, but the answer is not to shut it down, but to toughen up rules and regulations to raise standards.

Uber was stripped of its licence in London last year but is still operating in the city, which caused a week of protests by black cab drivers. Transport for London labelled Uber as not a ‘fit and proper’ business.

Mrs May warned Uber that their safety and employment practices need to be brought up to scratch.

Uber has promised to clean up its act in an attempt to regain its licence in London.

but the answer is not to shut it down,

in other words HMG want to see uber drive British businesses to the wall and take over the UK market paying pitifully small amounts of money to the exchequer

but as long as they are paying into tory party funds that's OK

I don't think the answer is to shut it down, just make it adhere to licensing laws.

Uber's view is that licensing laws should be changed to suit Uber. Think the reverse is defo on the table.

Is the Prime Minister ensuring through the special relationship that her and hubbies finances are secure as he is part of a concern who has invested in Uber.
Lets hope that the Bill going before Parliament Friday is passed unaltered as it will stuff Ubers working method.

Isn't it just the 2nd reading in the commons? It has an awful long way to go before becoming law.

I think with all this Brexit lark taking up government time that Private Members Bills have move chance of becoming law.
