i wonder if Chris has shares in this

A Plymouth taxi firm is set to swallow up another rival in a multi-million-pound merger - making them one of the biggest in the city.

Need-A-Cab is set to take over Crownhill Taxis at the beginning of April, taking the company to a whopping 200 drivers.

Company bosses Huw Isaac and David McIntosh have built the business from scratch, starting out as ‘24/7 Taxi’s’ in a small office in Stoke.

Co-owner David Evans joined the team with his significant knowledge after 24/7 Taxi’s merged with Need-A-Cab a few years ago. The more dominant name was kept and the team overtook their current premises on Ham Drive.

The trio have worked tirelessly to become “the best in the city”, they said, and just four months ago took over former rival Star Cars.

That deal alone saw them add more than 35 drivers to their growing fleet.

The merger with Crownhill Taxis will mean Need-A-Cab will have 200 drivers on the road and 30 office-based staff.

Huw said: “What we’ve done in seven years is what the taxi industry in Plymouth has done in 30 years.

“We think outside the box. We did our market research and it was apparent there was a massive opportunity.

“We’ve worked hard – it’s the biggest merger in the Plymouth taxi world for many years, that’s a fact.

“What sets us apart is the way we treat our drivers. We have regular driver meetings and we’re always available to them should they need anything.”

Crownhill Taxis is currently owned and run by Andy Wheeler, who is intending to leave the industry to retire.

Need-A-Cab will be re-branding the 60 cars they take over, as well as providing staff with their uniform.

hmmmmmm............. so will these drivers be employed ?
