Man dies after 'getting out of moving taxi' in Burnley

A man has died after he "got out of a moving taxi", police have said.

Lancashire Police said Paul Burrows "sustained serious injury" when he landed "in the middle of" Burnley's Church Street at about 02:00 BST on Sunday.

The 40-year-old, from Brierfield, later died from his injuries in hospital.

In a statement, his family said he was a "much loved and caring husband, father, son and brother who will be missed more than words can say".

Appealing for witnesses or anyone "who helped Paul on the night", Sgt Marc Glass said it was a "tragic incident".

not another one

No doubt the driver will face charges and be stripped of his livelihood because of the stupidity of his punters that's what normally seems to happen

Coroner reaches 'death by misadventure' verdict on man who jumped out of moving taxi in Burnley

A CORONER has concluded that misadventure was the cause of the death of a 40-year-old father who got out of a moving taxi.

An inquest held at Preston Coroner’s Court was told how Paul Burrows, from Brierfield, jumped out of the Toyota Avensis taxi in Church Street, Burnley, at around 2am on Sunday, April 15, of this year.

Mr Burrows sustained a number of serious injuries as he landed in the middle of the road.

Despite the best efforts of the public, paramedics and doctors Mr Burrows died at Royal Preston Hospital from his injuries.

Police appealed for witnesses following the death.

His inquest was held earlier this month.

Following his death, Mr Burrows’ family released a statement which paid tribute to the loving husband and father.

The statement read: “Paul was a much loved and caring husband, father, son and brother who will be missed more than words can say and who will be in our hearts forever.”

His nephew, Josh Wilson, said: “Paul was one of the nicest men anyone could ask for.

“He would have helped absolutely anyone in need, he was just that type of person.

“He truly loved my auntie and his kids and he’ll surely be missed by everyone who ever was lucky enough to know him.

“Gonna miss seeing him fly round in his Subaru.”

In the wake of Mr Burrows death police had issued a witness appeal, describing the incident as tragic.

Sgt Marc Glass, of the road policing unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts and those of my investigation team are with the family at this sad and difficult time.”

Very sad all round.

If anything is to blame, in my view it's booze.

Not one thought for the TAXI driver who now has to live with this trauma for the rest of his life.

it's a sad fact of life that many people have at least one major traumatic experience in their lives. They reckon every tube driver in the village of London will see someone killed under their train at some point in their career. How many people have been the victim of armed robbers or in a serious car crash ?

If you have got through life without something like that at all you are VERY lucky

You learn to live with it and move on
