Dash cam footage has captured the moment a taxi driver “nearly knocks” a little girl over after overtaking on a zebra crossing.

Anthony Breslin’s three-year-old daughter, Willow, was crossing the road with her childminder when the incident involving a Boro Taxis vehicle happened.

It occurred on Trimdon Avenue in Acklam , just outside St Clare's Primary School, at about 9am on Wednesday, April 25.

The driver has since been identified by the firm and has been suspended. He has also been reported to the police and Middlesbrough Council .

“Luckily the car at the crossing had a dash cam and offered up the footage,” said Anthony, who lives with his family in Linthorpe.

The footage, which has been shared by thousands on Facebook, shows the driver of the dash cam car leaving the zebra crossing clear as a result of traffic ahead.

The childminder, who is also pushing another child in a pram, then comes along, thanks the driver, and starts to cross the road.

Willow goes to run ahead but the “quick-minded” childminder quickly pulls her back before the Boro Taxis vehicle overtakes the traffic and travels on the wrong side of the road.

“I was at work when it happened,” said Anthony.

“My wife had actually heard about an incident outside the school after they appealed for any witnesses.

“We later found out what had happened and that incident involved our daughter.

“As you can see from the footage, the childminder only let go of my daughter's hand for one second to say thank you to the driver for stopping.

“But I think Willow must have taken that has meaning she could cross the road by herself.”

“I was mortified when I saw the footage,” added Anthony. “I keep having ‘what if’ moments. It could have been a lot different.

“She (the childminder) was shook up all day.”

“I want his licence ripped up,” Anthony added on Facebook.

Christine Bell, director of Boro Cars, said: “We are horrified by the driving displayed in the video. Although the driver, who owns his own vehicle, was not working as a private hire driver at the time of this incident, we have been able to identify him.

“We have suspended the driver from working and reported him to the police and Middlesbrough Council, the regulating body which has licensed him as a private hire driver.

“We hope that the police and Middlesbrough Council will act as swiftly as we have to deal with this matter, because driving of this nature is wholly unacceptable.”

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman confirmed that the force has received a report of the incident and that it is being investigated.

Taxi driver to appear in court following alleged incident at zebra crossing

A taxi driver is set to appear in court in connection with an incident in which a little girl was allegedly “nearly knocked over”.

Anthony Breslin’s three-year-old daughter, Willow, was said to have been crossing the road with her childminder when an incident involving a taxi happened on Trimdon Avenue in Acklam.

It occurred just outside St Clare’s Primary School at about 9am on Wednesday, April 25.

Cleveland Police has since confirmed that a Middlesbrough man has been interviewed voluntarily and has been reported for summons.

“A 45-year-old man from the Middlesbrough area was interviewed voluntarily,” said a spokeswoman for the force.

“He has been reported for summons for the offences of not giving precedence to pedestrians at a zebra crossing and also driving without due care and attention.”

A taxi driver who was caught on caught on camera 'nearly knocking' a little girl over has been ordered to pay over £1,000.

Yaseen Rehman has also had his licence taken off him by Middlesbrough Council, meaning he is no longer able to work as a taxi driver.

The former Boro Taxis worker appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court after being reported for summons by Cleveland Police.

There the 45-year-old of Dornoch Sands, Acklam, faced two charges 'proved in absence' - driving without due care and attention and failing to accord precedence at a crossing.

He was fined £880 and ordered to pay costs of £151.

Dash cam footage captured the moment that Rehman, who was driving a Skoda Octavia, committed the crime.

The video, which can be watched above, shows the driver of the dash cam car leaving the zebra crossing clear as a result of traffic ahead.

A childminder caring for Anthony Breslin’s three-year-old daughter, Willow, and another child comes along, thanks the driver, and starts to cross the road.

Willow can then be seen going to run ahead but the “quick-minded” childminder quickly pulls her back before the taxi overtakes the traffic and travels on the wrong side of the road.

The incident occurred on Trimdon Avenue in Acklam , just outside St Clare's Primary School, at about 9am on April 24.

Speaking at the time, Anthony said: “As you can see from the footage, the childminder only let go of my daughter's hand for one second to say thank you to the driver for stopping.

“But I think Willow must have taken that has meaning she could cross the road by herself.”

“I was mortified when I saw the footage,” added Anthony, who said he kept having 'what if’ moments.

"It could have been a lot different."

Councillor Julia Rostron, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for adult social care and public health, said: “Our taxi drivers carry out an important public service, and that carries with it great responsibility towards the passengers they carry, and other members of the public.

“This driver’s behaviour put others in danger, and that’s why we had no hesitation in revoking his licence.

“This court case sends out a clear message about the standards we expect of our drivers, and the consequences they can expect if they flout the law.”

A spokeswoman for Boro Cars also confirmed Rehman, who appeared in court on July 30, was no longer working as a taxi driver.

That might seem a clever thing to say, and maybe the councillor is playing to an audience, but when you are dealing with people's livelihoods you do hesitate, you consider and then you decide.
