Taxi driver in hospital with serious head injuries after violent street robbery

Two women, aged 22 and 23, and a 20-year-old man, all from Stoke-on-Trent, are being questioned by police following the horrific attack in Cheadle

A taxi driver is being treated in hospital after suffering head injuries in a ‘violent’ robbery during the early hours of this morning.

The cabbie was savagely attacked in High Street, Cheadle, at around 3.45am today (June 10) before £100 in cash was stolen.

He was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Police arrested a 23-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, at the scene on suspicion of robbery.

Another 22-year-old woman, also from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

All three remain in custody for questioning this afternoon.

Now officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers responded to reports of a taxi driver being attacked in the High Street in Cheadle. The taxi driver suffered head injuries and had £100 in cash taken from him.

“If you saw this incident please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 91 of June 11.

Let's hope these are the scum that attacked the driver.

And let's hope they get plenty of time inside.
