Uber driver watched football on iPad for 30 minutes while driving

A horrified Uber customer filmed as his driver watched a live stream of the football on an iPad while driving.

Duncan MacLeod asked the driver to turn the TV stream off but his plea was ignored.

Duncan was already annoyed because prices were ‘surging’ and he would have to fork out £25 for the trip.

So when he looked up halfway through the 30-minute journey through central London to the ExCel Centre on May 26, he was shocked to see his driver had the match set up to play on his dashboard.

Duncan, 27, says the driver initially asked if he would mind if he listened to the football, which he said was fine.

But when he asked him to stop watching on his iPad, he claims the driver ignored his request, which is when he started filming.

In the clip, the iPad is clearly visible on the car’s dashboard as the driver continues to take turns and stop for other traffic.

Uber have confirmed the driver has been suspended from their service and are now investigating.

Duncan, an online content creator from North Wales, said: ‘You can’t watch TV while you are driving for good reason.

‘It is quite frustrating to ask someone to stop doing something that is illegal while they’re driving me.

‘I didn’t feel 100% safe in the car if I’m honest. He was putting people in danger as he was distracted while driving.’

He claims the driver looked down at the iPad several times throughout his journey.

Even while the adverts are on, he looks down three of four times in the space of a 30 second video – and that is just at adverts,’ Duncan said.

‘He had been watching the game itself a lot more.’

Duncan reported the incident to Uber who later called to say the driver had been removed from their service and refunded his trip.

‘I have never seen anything like this before and I spend around £200 a month on Uber on average,’ Duncan said.

An Uber spokesperson said: ‘This is totally unacceptable behaviour and we are investigating.

‘It’s our policy to prevent licensed private hire drivers from using our app while we investigate serious incidents.’

And another snowflake that thinks it's ok to go into someones workplace and tell them how to do their job, and because they didn't get their own way feels the need to whinge about it to the world.

Just because it was on doesn't mean he was watching it, could've been glancing down at something else. And even though he didn't feel safe didn't ask to stop and be let out but carried on with the journey. AND whinges about the price even though he knew what it would be at the time of booking but chose not to seek a cheaper alternative.

I'm always glancing at the PDA, the meter, the rear view mirror, the side mirrors, the radio, the heating controls. It doesn't mean I'm not still concentrating on the road ahead.

I'm not sure I would want to get in a taxi/PH with live football on in front of the driver.

But at least it wasn't porn.

The law is the law regarding having a tv or other such device on whilst in the drivers vision. Is simply isn't allowed.

Strangely, I don't think it does.
