Jason Payne jailed for sexual attack on woman in taxi office

A man took advantage of a drunken woman who had passed out at a taxi office.

The victim had collapsed onto a seat near to Jason Payne who then carried out a "flagrant violation of a vulnerable woman".

And a judge at Canterbury Crown Court heard how as the woman slumped into the seat, she was sexually abused by the 47-year-old.

Now Payne, of Quex View Road, Birchington, has been jailed for three years after admitting the attack in July 2016.

Judge Simon James told him: “You targeted this young woman, who was a complete stranger to you.

"She was waiting in the taxi office for a cab to take her home.

“She had been drinking and fell asleep. And as she was effectively unconscious, and obviously in no position to consent, you sexually assaulted her.”

Prosecutor Christopher May told how the distressed victim woke up during the attack and slapped Payne before demanding the police were called.

The judge added: “I consider the fact she was assaulted in public to be an aggravating feature which could only have added to your victim’s degradation and humiliation.

“Her obviously drowsy and semi-conscious state meant she was particularly vulnerable – which you set out to exploit, doing so repeatedly and over a prolonged period.”

Payne only admitted the attack after police discovered CCTV and DNA evidence.

Jade Gambrill, defending, said Payne was drunk and the attack had been out of character.

Doesn't seem like security is particularly tight at this office, but at least they have CCTV. :?

Hunt for three teenagers involved in distraction burglary at Walmer railway station taxi office

CCTV captured one boy running out the office with what appears to be money in his hand

Police are hunting for three teenagers after money was reported stolen from a Walmer taxi office.

The incident happened in Direct Cars at the railway station on Friday (June 15) at around 10am.

A girl is said to have attempted to distract an employee while another boy allegedly grabbed £140 and ran off. A third boy is believed to be involved but wasn't seen by the employee.

Charlotte Henderson, 45, lives in Walmer and works at the Direct Cars office as a taxi controller.

She said: "There were two boys and a girl and she tried to distract me. I think the boy who stole the money was about 17-years-old

"We have seen the girl out and about before. She has tight curly blonde hair and is also about 17-years-old.

"They were here for about an hour. They were asking for a taxi and I asked to see their money.

"The boy had his hand in between the two monitors where I had £140 in a clear plastic money bag waiting for a driver to pick it up.

"He just ran and I was too scared to leave the office as my handbag was under the desk. I wouldn't have caught him.

"They told the lady at Walmer Station that they had left a phone on a train to try and get her away from the till.

"We looked at the CCTV and they hadn't even got off a train. It's just so annoying. I knew they were up to something.

"About an hour later, they were spotted on Mayers Road asking if a builder would ring them a taxi to Margate. I then asked every taxi firm in the area not to take anyone to Margate.

"We have had builders outside every day except that one day which is frustrating as I'm sure one of them would have been able to catch him".

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police is investigating a report of a distraction burglary at a taxi firm at Walmer Railway Station which took place at 10.10am on Friday (June 15).

"Three teenagers – two boys and a girl - are reported to have entered the taxi firm’s office and claimed that they had lost a phone and a bike. While staff were distracted a quantity of cash was stolen.

"One of the boys was described as being of Asian appearance, aged about 17 and of a slim build.

"He was wearing glasses, a blue shirt, dark trousers, red trainers and a hooded top with a navy chest panel and grey arms.

"The girl was described as being aged about 17 with curly blonde hair."

That CCTV will produce results.
