A taxi crashed into a lamppost in North Prospect yesterday evening and became "wedged".

The Taxi-First cab was pictured on the grass verge on the zebra crossing in Ham Drive, with a leaning post in front of it around 6pm on Wednesday.

The vehicle had damage to the front bumper and bonnet, and police were called to the street.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "The taxi was in collision with a lamppost on a zebra crossing in Ham Drive.

"The post was knocked out of the ground and vehicle was wedged on the post."

The spokesperson added that nobody was injured in the incident.

The cab was abandoned in the road until it was recovered around 8.15pm.

Taxi First has been approached for comment.

I suspect Brexit will get the blame for that.

All Taxis in Plymouth are WAV.

This is a PH.

The Firm is "Taxi First" it used to be called "Taxi Fast" in the days of John Preece. Despite claiming to be on the breadline most think he still owns the firm through nominees.

The top light has been a bone of contention for years, the Council conceded on the steps of the Court!

Allegedly the driver was more Hissed than the passenger

Bit of deja vu about this one - thought it might have been same company and similar sort of crash, but I have been known to get my Portsmouths and Plymouths mixed up

A TAXI crashed into a traffic light on a Portsmouth road during rush hour this morning.

The white car, an Aqua Cars taxi, crashed into one of two traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing outside the Naval Club on Lake Road.

The vehicle is pictured in front of the light with its front end damaged, and the light has been left standing at an angle. Police were called to the scene at 8.31am after reports of the collision – officers are there and no injuries have been reported.

So do others, I have been asked for the Gosport ferry more than once, that's in Portsmouth. HMS NELSON, Portsmouth, Haslar Hospital, Portsmouth, and even the Isle of Wight Ferry, Portsmouth.

I believe it is even more common for Portsmouth Drivers to be asked for the Torpoint Ferry, Plymouth, or HMS RALEIGH in Torpoint over the river Tamar from Plymouth by families who are going to watch Passing Out Divisions (or not).

Both begin with "P" and end with "Mouth", both are Naval Cities. The 186 road miles between the 2 are really quite a hurdle when they get it wrong.

And for the rest of us, they're both on the south coast, especially if you're as far north as me :)

Actually worked out a few years ago which one is which, if only because there's a direct train to Plymouth (and Penzance) from our local station in NE Fife (Leuchars) and so I knew they were in the Devon/Cornwall area, which I can more or less point out on a map :P
