Please visit the Nottingham Post's website to view the videos Two men filmed jumping on Nottingham taxi after England World Cup quarter-final win https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/loc ... am-1760382 The video shows a large amount of damage has been caused to the car Shocking footage has emerged of two men jumping up and down on a Nottingham taxi after England beat Sweden in the World Cup quarter-final. Nottinghamshire police have confirmed that they are investigating the damage caused to the car on Saturday evening - but no arrests have been made. The two videos show the men on top of the silver car with hundreds of people watching and cheering. Towards the end of the first video a man in blue denim shorts and a white t-shirt swallow dives off the car after jumping up and down on the bonnet and kicking the windscreen. Throughout the clip the crowd sings "football's coming home" before cheering when the man jumps off the vehicle which has a Nottingham Cars' logo on the side. The second video shows a different man without his shirt on bouncing up and down on the glass roof of the car while the crowd chants. The video shows a large amount of damage has been caused to the car which was parked just off Old Market Square. Damage was also done to bus stops on Friar Lane. A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “There are no arrests in relation to the damage caused after the football at this time. “The damage was caused by unknown offenders but an investigation will take place in due course. “The car involved in the incident has been taken away.” The Post has tried to contact Nottingham Cars. |

The Facebook link posted by Nidge in another section shows the early part of the incident more clearly, but doesn't show the extent of the damage to the car, the worst of which presumably happened after this video ends. https://www.facebook.com/eldeen.thorne/ ... 587534134/ |

Can't find any photos of taxis, but here's some of an ambulance in London. Doesn't look as bad as the Nottingham car, but windscreen beyond repair, bonnet crumpled, number plate missing, wing mirror missing, damage to roof and light strip. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For anyone who can't see the videos, here's a shorter one on Twitter which should load easily, and shows the worst of the damage being done to the cab: https://twitter.com/AirForce_Carl/statu ... 4774800385 |

I watched the game yesterday and decided to go back out for a few hours. Did ok, but if we had lost I wouldn't have gone back out for £20 a mile. |

Couldn't help recalling this when watching scenes tonight. It's like that instead of getting out of the taxi and getting as far away as possible from it, the Nottingham driver totally lost it and, you know...

Looking at scenes before the worst of the collision, the night taxi driver in me saw the driver either driving where he shouldn't have been, or there were no restrictions on him entering the road, which was at that time full of people. So there was conflict between the driver and peds, and things got out of hand. It looked from some footage and photos that his back window had been caved in before the worst of what happened, which maybe happened shortly after this bit: https://d8cjg2ym55mbsl.archive.is/97o6R ... aab83.webp This seems to be when the car came to a halt - you can see that the back window was out at this point: https://dfhii1hndfliz8.archive.is/X5vG0 ... bea8a.webp However, apparently it's being reported in the Times that the driver came out of a bar obviously drunk, got in the car, and then tried to get through the crowds (although I can't find that on the Times' website). So maybe there was some justification in the people attacking the car and trying to get the driver out. But whatever actually happened, I'd put money on the driver not setting out to do precisely what happened And there's loads of other chatter about the streets being reopened to traffic prematurely, but who knows? No doubt all the facts will come out in time. Unless, of course, all the facts don't come out in time

Stuff here about eyewitness claims that the driver came out of a Hooters bar visibly drunk and then got into his vehicle. Although I watched the police press conference earlier, which would have surely taken place after the stuff below was published, and certainly no mention about drunk driving. But, of course, they just said that a 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool area had been arrested, so presumably no specific charges yet. (This is too big for on here, but should be high-res enough to be readable.) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gr6H6a2W8AA ... name=large |
