Nice bit of 'advertorial' this, and a familiar tale - who'd have thunk there would be 'drivers disillusioned with the trade' in Middlesbrough who would set up their own office? From one fare a day to fleet of 45 cars - the new taxi firm on Teesside https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/business/ ... m-14988066 Middlesbrough based Falcon Cars was set up by a group of taxi drivers who became disillusioned with trade ![]() From taking only a single fair in a day - to employing a fleet of over 40 drivers, a new taxi firm is flourishing on Teesside. Middlesbrough based, Falcon Cars started in November and was set up by a group of taxi drivers who had become disillusioned with the business. In order to enjoy their job and give customers the best experience possible, the company was formed and now has a fleet of 45 cars and drivers. General manager, Rahese Karim, said: “We started with one car. It was a very slow and hard start for us all but especially for two drivers Gary and Abdi, who some days sat about and didn’t do a single fare in a day. “But thanks to the quality of service these guys provided at the start, the word got about on social media and people started using this company. “In eight months the company now has 45 vehicles mostly now owned by the drivers.” With over 30 years experience in the taxi trade, Rahese wants the company to grow so that Teessiders have an option when booking a taxi. “Our company makes sure that all of the drivers are local to the area and have local knowledge, they all live in Teesside,” he said. “We even have a waiting list of drivers as we are very careful with who we employ.” He added: “We want out drivers and customers to get a fair deal and enjoy their ride.” The firm has also decided to organise a food donation event in awareness of families who struggle to feed their children over the summer holidays. They will also donate £1 for every fare to and from an airport throughout the summer period to the cause. |

All sounds fantastic - as what is basically a press release from the firm would do - but the cynic in me thinks that within a year or two the firm will just become a carbon copy of the firms that this office's founders were 'disillusioned' with, and there will just be a different set of people at the top, and a new group of disillusioned drivers at the bottom

Personally I can't imagine anything worse than starting up a PH firm from scratch. Well done to all that have, but would you do it again? |

Maybe they'll build up the business and sell on to the highest bidder. |

Teesside taxi firm 'hit hard' by coronavirus - as Boro Taxis step in to save jobs A Teesside taxi business has been forced to fold in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Falcon Taxis said the ongoing pandemic has hit the business hard and it is unable to continue trading. In a statement on its Facebook page on Monday, the firm announced Boro Taxis would step in as a result of the closure. It said: "Falcon Cars is grateful to our customers for their loyalty, but unfortunately the coronavirus pandemic has hit our business so hard that we are unable to continue as we are at present. "We are so grateful, following our approach, to be able to transfer our remaining business to Boro Cars and to work alongside them in order to safeguard jobs with effect from today." The Middlesbrough based company was formed in November 2017 by a group of taxi drivers who had become disillusioned with the business. Following the announcement, many customers commented on the post. One person said: "I'm so sad to hear this. "I've only used Falcon since you started out and hope you manage to get back on track very soon." Another added: "So sad such a fantastic company will miss them." The closure comes after Middlesbrough and Hartlepool were put into local lockdown on Saturday. Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced the strict new measures in the House of Commons on Thursday morning. The new rules involve stopping indoor mixing of different households in any indoor settings - including at pubs and restaurants. It also follows the 10pm national curfew. Both of measures will have dramatically reduced business for taxi firms in recent weeks. In the last couple of months, a number of Teesside businesses and schools have also been forced to temporarily close their doors after positive coronavirus tests. |
