Short piece, but can't recall reading about either of these matters in mainland UK spotchecks, at least not in the last couple of years.

Belfast taxi driver fined for tampering with meter after PSNI operation

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news ... 27050.html

A taxi driver has been fined for tampering with a meter after a joint operation by the PSNI, HMRC and DVA was conducted in north Belfast.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, also discovered one taxi driver using red diesel and another operating with un-roadworthy tyres.

Detective Inspector Andrew Hamlin said: “As a result of the operation we searched a number of taxis - 1 taxi was seized by HMRC for having red diesel, 1 taxi was prevented from operating by DVA due to un-roadworthy tyres and 1 taxi driver fined by DVA for tampering with a taxi meter.

“Yesterday’s successful action was the result of different enforcement agencies working together. Police will continue to conduct similar operations in the future.”
