TAXI tycoon Stevie Malcolm has stepped down as boss of one of his biggest cab firms.

The £50million cars supremo nicknamed ‘the Fat Controller’ quit Edinburgh City Private Hire and handed the reins to business partner Allan Gibson, 58.

Former managing director Malcolm, 54, a pal of late crimelord Tam ‘The Licensee’ McGraw, still owns between 25 and 50 per cent of the firm.

But he has had no involvement in its day-to-day running since July 31.

A source said: “Not many people know that Malcolm left and I don’t know why. It seems strange that he would resign from one of his biggest firms.

“He’s got his fingers in a million pies in the taxi game so there could be any one of a thousand reasons.

“But he still has a stake in the firm so he’s not relinquished control completely. He is a businessman after all.”

The cab chief’s exit comes a year after he bought Key Cars — a firm with links to Steven ‘Bonzo’ Daniel, nephew of dead crime kingpin Jamie Daniel.

Malcolm owns a fleet of luxury motors and a sprawling £9million home near Gleneagles, Perthshire.

In 2014 he was seen discussing a taxi deal with Bonzo and Edinburgh drug lord Mark Richardson, 31.

Last year we revealed four Mercs were torched in a £150,000 arson attack at Malcolm’s Penny Cars base in Airdrie after he wooed drivers from rival firms.

His resignation from ECPH is not believed to be linked.

We contacted one of Mr Malcolm’s firms for comment but got no reply. A worker at ECPH said Mr Gibson was on holiday.
