Taxi taken off the road after enforcement clampdown

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... clampdown/

TAXI drivers whose cars were found to be defective have been hit with action.

Ribble Valley Council's taxi enforcement officer inspected 12 vehicles as part of a clampdown in a joint operation with police, and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency.

Eight were found to be of the required standard but four vehicles had faults requiring action.

The drivers of 3 of those vehicles were served with delayed prohibition notices requiring work to be carried out on their vehicles within seven days. The notices related to a tyre incorrectly fitted, a rear sill badly corroded, worn brake pads and wishbone bushes which were badly worn.

The officer has monitored whether this work has been carried out and confirmed all three vehicles have since been issued with new MOT certificates.

The remaining vehicle was found to have a rear seat belt with a loose mounting bolt.

This vehicle was issued with a prohibition notice and was taken off the road with immediate effect and the issue has now been rectified.

Didn't know there was a minimum limit for MOT, just that they pass the rolling road brake test.

Brake pads must have at least 1.5 mm of friction material wear left to pass the MOT. The Nominated Tester will check your tyres. They will check that treads on the tyres are at least 1.6mm deep across the central three-quarters of the tread width around the whole circumference of the tyre.
