So a new firm - which looks like one-man-band and is run by 22-year-old - missed 649 fares in one night just a few days after starting up? :-s

Certainly very adept at generating favourable press coverage though, aka a glorified advertisement =D>

New Redcar taxi firm 'desperate' for drivers after losing 649 fares a night

Adam Graham, owner of new Redcar firm AMG Taxis, says the demand is there - but he needs more drivers to come

The owner of a new taxi firm for Redcar says he's "desperate" for more drivers after having to turn away thousands of pounds in fares in the first week.

AMG Taxis owner Adam Graham, 22, is taking on the big firms and says the demand is there - but he needs more cars to come on board.

He posted a picture of his phone display showing 649 missed fares in one night and 'strongly apologised' to disappointed customers, assuring them he's 'working hard to sort the issue out'.

The 22-year-old, from Redcar spotted a 'gap in the market' for a taxi firm to cover Redcar, Marske, Saltburn, Guisbrough and East Cleveland.

But days after opening he made a plea for drivers on social media, posting: "Needing owner drivers ASAP turning away £1,000s worth of work at the moment, especially night drivers needed!!!!"

Adam said: "We are having to turn away work just because we haven't got enough cars.

"People don't like taking risks sometimes.

"I'm desperate for night staff especially and when it's busy through the day, I haven't got enough cars to cover it all.

"But we are only eight days old the more we get recognised, the better it will be.

"I used to work for JP then Elite, I saw a gap in the market and nobody else seemed to be moving into it.

"Elite Taxis has scaled up so quickly, the demand is obviously there."

He added: "It’s going to be hard I know that, but I also believe you make your own luck. The work's there."

And AMG has already received positive reviews.

One satisfied customer posted on social media: "Used the company for the first time this afternoon thought I would have a wait with it been tea time lovely friendly driver and very polite lady on the phone.. makes a change keep it up AMG."

649 missed calls I wonder how many of them were duplicated calls from people frustrated at not getting through

No firms already covering those areas ? Why are they phoning him rather than their usual company - let me guess, cheap fares  #-o
And he wonders why he cant get drivers. #-o

It's all down to money.

Have decent fares and decent punters and you will have drivers knocking on your door.

Unless you're edders.

Have cheap fares and all you'll get are the dregs of society and druggies.

Some people share cars, or need the money.

Realy? Our drivers keep more of the money they take. We never do cheap prices and we still can't get drivers.
Some of the reasons are quite simple. Drivers with some of the other firms earn so little that they are on benefits and they don't want to earn the sort of money they can with us because they might lose their benefits. They wont work for us because we stick to the rules regarding jobs from outside the town but still in the borough and we wont tolerate drivers deliberatly overcharging customers.

This thread started with a firm saying they had to bin loads of jobs because they can't recruit enough drivers?

Are some really saying that they can't get drivers because they earn too much and they get treated really really well?
