The shocking incident took place in Sunderland at the weekend when the man known only as "Glen" asked a cabbie to take an injured man to hospital. He claims to have come across the bleeding stranger after going out for a drink, but the driver refused to help. Glen then claims to have stood in front of the car - when the driver began to pull away, forcing Glen up on to the bonnet. They then drove around the city for at least four and a half minutes with Glen still on the bonnet as the driver fails to stop. Captions on the incredible video read: "So I ask a taxi driver to take this lad with [a] broken nose to hospital. “Now I never knew the lad personally, but the taxi would not take him. “So I stood [in front] of the taxi and he just pulled away with me on the front of his bonnet. “Next thing I know I’m getting driven [through] Sunderland on the front of a taxi bonnet surfing. “Thankfully the police stopped us and I did not press charges as we all do silly things.” Glen can be heard saying in the video: “Excuse me, I’m like on a taxi. “The lad needed to go to hospital and all of a sudden he pulled away and I’m on the f***g bonnet! “I think this is quite illegal, but I’m not sure.” He can even be heard arguing with the driver as they’re driving along. Glen yells: “You might as well pull over and I’ll punch your f*g head in, ‘cause I feel like killing you at the minute!” “I’ve come out for a drink and this is what’s happened – I’m going to f***g Southwick on a bonnet.” “You might as well keep on going son, I’m nearly home!” Another two taxis, appearing to be from the same firm, overtake the taxi towards the end of the clip, which may be when police intervened. Off camera, a woman’s voice can be heard saying “What are you doing?” to which Glen replies: “I’ve got it all on camera for you pet.” Northumbria Police and the taxi company believed to be involved have been contacted for comment.

At a rough guess I'd say that the driver didn't want to stop because this head-the-ball was threatening violence, and driver was waiting for assistance. Suspect the police never involved. Driver going quite slow as well to avoid escalating things - I mean, the drunk was telling him to speed up

Why do the general public assume we will take any old sh**, just because they ask? If they are that concerned about a person, take them themselves, or ring up one of their relatives to come and be the good Samaritan.

Alternatively, they were involved but didn't take any action, but now it's all over the press they've embarked on a PR exercise Northumbria Police spokesman wrote: “We are aware of a video circulating on social media which shows a man riding on the bonnet of a moving vehicle in Sunderland in the early hours of Saturday, November 10. “Police have identified the individuals involved and an investigation is ongoing. “We would like to stress that this kind of behaviour is incredibly dangerous and could have potentially fatal consequences.”

Idiot driver once council gets involved it'll be bye bye license even if the numpty on the bonnet was the trouble maker

Officers believed they have identified the man who appears in the film, which runs over two minutes long. A spokeswoman for the Southwick-based Station Taxis said: “I can confirm that the taxi in the video is a Station Taxi. “However we can not make comment at the moment because of the ongoing police investigation. “We have also made taxi licensing aware of this incident.” Cabinet member for environment and transport, Councillor Amy Wilson, said: “The taxi operator concerned has contacted us about this well-publicised incident. “We will work closely with our community safety partners in respect of the matter and consider appropriate action.” RAC road safety spokesman Pete Williams said: “This is incredibly dangerous and irresponsible of both parties – the driver of the taxi and the man who took his protest onto the bonnet of the vehicle. “It is remarkable and perhaps frightening it went on as long as it did, and it’s sad that it needed a police officer to resolve it.”
