A broken nose, fractured eye socket and cuts were some of the shocking injuries a cabbie sustained from a Loftus man now starting a long spell behind bars.

Daniel Pearson launched the nasty attack on a taxi driver in June this year and was jailed after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 33-year-old was locked up for six years at Teesside Crown Court last Tuesday.

Cleveland Police has said it hopes the sentence will help the victim to move on with their life.

A force spokeswoman said: "We are happy with the sentence handed to Daniel Pearson today and we hope the victim can now move on with his life knowing Daniel is serving a long time behind bars.

"Our officers would like to thank the brave witnesses who provided information which assisted with the investigation.

"A huge well done to the officers involved in this investigation for their hard work in bringing Pearson to justice."

Another charge of inflicting GBH by Pearson, of no fixed abode, was dropped after no evidence was offered.

I vaguely remember this one very nasty at least he got a proper sentence not a pseudo punishment
