A taxi driver has told how he lost an eye after being hit in the face by a drunk passenger's stiletto in a horror attack.

Afaq Iftikhar, 32, was left with life-changing injuries after allegedly being set upon by the woman and her friends after asking them to leave his cab near the Bullring.

The dad-of-three was later told by doctors that his right eye was too badly damaged to be saved following a four-hour operation.

The private hire driver told how he was attacked at 4.30am on Saturday after picking up four women and a man from the Arcadian Centre.

Mr Iftikhar - originally from Pakistan - say the situation turned violent after one woman began being sick and he pulled over by a SPAR shop at St Martin's Square.

The dad, who has residency in the UK, said: "I got out to ask the girl vomiting to come out, and found one girl stealing money from the front of the cab.

"I told them I would call the police, and then the guy and girls threatened me.

"They were saying 'what're you gonna do?'

"I told them to go and not pay but they attacked me.

"I told them to take what they wanted and leave me alone, one of them took my car keys."

The cabbie said the female passenger being sick then attacked him with her stiletto shoe, rupturing his right eye. Two other passengers then began punching him.

Mr Iftikhar was also left with gashes to his head from the group who he says stole money from the taxi.

He was left with blood gushing from his eye for six minutes before help arrived - and now fears he may never drive again.

The taxi driver said: "I'm in really bad shape right now, my world has been turned upside down by this.

"I don't know what I am going to do or how I am going to look after my kids.

"I am not a British citizen I can't get any benefits to help me now.

"I'm scared that I could lose my job because of this.

The doctor is keeping me for observation, but he could register me as legally blind."

"Because I am a private hire taxi driver I do not get the same protections as black cabs," said Mr Iftikhar.

"If I had had a security panel between the driving seat and the passengers it would have been a different story."

West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment.

Agree, and when they are caught the punishment should be (all passengers)in vehicle that they pay to keep this lad in the custom of life he is used to as compensation FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

Totally agree with the other comments about what should happen to these thugs, but I don’t know what he’s getting at about the security of a black cab, he states he “got out” and asked them to leave his vehicle ?

Doubt it, the hen thug will get a Years Jail. out in 9 months, back to her cosy life and not pay a penny more, she'll feel no remorse accept that which is expressed by her lawyer in court...yet the driver will be lucky to claim anything from his insurance and even if he succeeds it'll be minimum compo even though his type of injury may put him out of driving work forever.

Welcome to modern Britain and it's modern undisciplined generation, a product of political social experimentation where they can do no wrong no matter how bad that wrong may be.

Video on the website - shows the woman brandishing the stiletto, but (un)fortunately doesn't show the moment of the attack that caused the injury.

'Fortunately' for anyone watching, of course, 'unfortunately' as far as evidence concerned.

Best site for viewing the video possibly the Metro's - didn't think it looked good initially that he punched back, but note that the woman had knocked his glasses off just before that, so reaction understandable, and they were all bearing down on him

Taxi driver releases horrifying footage of attack in which he lost his eye when he was set upon by a woman with a STILETTO as he slams police for bungling the investigation

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... t-eye.html

•Afaq Iftikhar left with dreadful injuries after the alleged attack in Birmingham

•Claimed female passenger being sick then attacked him with her stiletto shoe

•Mr Iftikhar said police claimed to have 'lost' the footage he later found in his cab

A taxi driver has released horrific footage of the moment he lost his eye in a stiletto attack as he slams police who couldn't find the video in his cab.

Afaq Iftikhar, 32, was left with life-changing injuries after he was set upon by a woman and her male friend when he threw them out for vomiting in his cab near the Bullring in Birmingham.

The father-of-three said the woman turned violent and stabbed him in the face with a high heel, rupturing his right eyeball, while her friend punched him and others shouted racist slurs.

Mr Iftikhar was later told by doctors that his right eye was too badly damaged to be saved following a four-hour operation.

The private hire driver has now revealed footage of the moments before he lost his eye, in which two women and a man can be seen punching him in front of his vehicle.

Mr Iftikhar claims he was forced to release the clip after West Midlands Police allegedly told him they couldn't find the footage.

But the taxi driver said he found the SD card in his car himself after officers held his vehicle for two weeks.

He said: 'I'm releasing the video now because throughout this ordeal, the police told me they couldn't find the footage.

'But I found it in the camera which was inside my car for the entire two weeks they had it in their care. I feel like they didn't even look for it.

'I also want to show people the kind of abuse that we, as drivers, are having to put up with while working - bus drivers get secure panels, so why don't we.'

Mr Iftikhar said he began to fight back when one of two women involved allegedly started to steal from the cab.

He said: 'I had to fight back, because at first I tried to call the police, but then the woman started trying to rob me and I knew I was outnumbered by them.

'I kept asking them to let me go free and take what they wanted, but they just kept attacking me, so I had to defend myself.

'Now my life has been turned upside down, I can't see a future for myself anymore.

'I feel alone, there's nothing in front of me. I don't know why this has happened.'

The private hire driver said he was attacked at 4.30am on December 15 after picking up four women and a man from the Arcadian Centre.

Mr Iftikhar - originally from Pakistan - said the situation turned violent after one woman began being sick and he pulled over by a SPAR shop at St Martin's Square.

The father-of-three was later told by doctors that his right eye was too badly damaged to be saved following a four-hour operation. Pictured is an injury to his head sustained during the attack

Mr Iftikhar had gashes to his head from the group who he said stole money from the taxi.

He was also left with blood gushing from his eye for six minutes before help arrived.

'I was just doing my job,' he said.

'I thought I was going to die, I was thinking about my family - my entire life flashed in front of my eyes.

'But I have been amazed at the responses to my story - my partner keeps receiving messages of anger towards the attackers.

'People understand who was right and who was wrong.'

West Midlands Police confirmed there have been no charges brought since three teenagers were arrested and released under investigation last month.

A spokesman said: 'Police are investigating an assault on a taxi driver after a dispute with three passengers over fares.

'The driver was kicked and punched by two of the passengers in Birmingham city centre, sometime between 3.50am and 4.25am.

'He suffered serious facial injuries.

'Three people were arrested: a 19-year-old man on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, an 18-year-old woman on suspicion of assault and an 18-year a woman on suspicion of theft.

'All three have been released under investigation.'

In response to Mr Iftikhar's accusations about the footage Detective Sergeant Ashley Hooton from Birmingham CID said: 'The taxi was recovered from the scene of the incident.

'Enquiries are ongoing in order to locate the SD card from the dashcam.'

Alongside the evidence of the driver, and any other witnesses, that's good evidence.

One of these incidents that sticks in the mind, but had forgotten that I never knew what the outcome of the investigation was. Not sure if anyone else was aware of how it all panned out, but at least this sentencing appeal serves as a useful reminder of it all.

But looks like she was only originally sentenced earlier this summer, so obviously it's taken a long time to come to justice, but the reasons for that aren't clear.

But, I mean, suspended prison sentence, eh? :?

This below is unusual in that it's an official HM Government news release from the Attorney General's office. But it's been rehashed by the Birmingham Mail and Coventry Telegraph:

Taxi driver’s attacker jailed after court intervenes

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/taxi ... intervenes

A woman who permanently blinded a taxi driver in one eye after a frenzied attack with her high heels has been jailed for three years.

Georgia Nicholson (23) from Coleshill, West Midlands, has had her suspended sentence quashed by the Court of Appeal after the Solicitor General referred the original conviction as being unduly lenient.

The court heard that on 15 December 2018, the victim was driving Nicholson and a group of her friends home following a night out.

The group had been drinking heavily and when the victim stopped the car as a passenger felt sick, he was subjected to racial abuse before being violently attacked.

Nicholson, who was 18 at the time, repeatedly tried to hit the victim with her high heels before rupturing his eyeball – leaving him permanently blind in his right eye. Members of the public had to intervene to stop Nicholson’s assault.

The Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP said:

"The victim has suffered life altering injuries and lost his livelihood following the offender’s frenzied and unprovoked attack against someone who was just doing his job.

"The court has rightfully recognised the offender’s brutality in this case and by upgrading the original suspended sentence to jail time should serve as a warning to others that violence like this will not be tolerated."

On 30 May 2023 Nicholson was sentenced to 24 months’ custody, suspended for 2 years, with 10 days of rehabilitation activity after she was charged with Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.

On 4 August 2023, the Court of Appeal increased Nicholson’s sentence to 3 years’ imprisonment after it was referred under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
