Yet another in the long list of reasons why cab drivers are assaulted ](*,)

Inverness taxi driver assaulted in row over car

A 22-year-old threw rocks at a taxi when its driver declined to help him start up his vehicle.

At Inverness Sheriff Court Sheriff David Sutherland heard Jools Grant also assaulted the taxi driver by repeatedly punching him on the head before targetting his car and then brandishing a knife at him.

Grant, of Springfield Gardens, Inverness, admitted charges of assault and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on January 12 in Springfield Gardens.

Depute fiscal David Morton told the court the taxi driver was picking up a neighbour of Grant's when the young man asked him to help get his car started.

The driver, however, told him he couldn't help as he had a passenger, at which Grant threw three or four punches, striking the driver on the face.

When he drove off Grant threw rocks and other items at the taxi and the driver was forced to stop as his wing mirror had been struck.

He also went back to see where Grant was and it was at this point, the court heard, that the accused appeared, brandishing knife.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said Grant had been drinking heavily and had no recollection of events.

He also confirmed that Grant was already on a community payback order for other offences, so reports would be needed.

Sentence was deferred until May 1.
