The pair died after the accident, which happened at around 1.45am in the early hours of New Year's Eve and closed the road in Dagenham for several hours. Police received reports regarding a car driving the wrong way on the A13 eastbound carriageway and the crash took place shortly after. Where did the A13 crash happen? The incident was on the A13 eastbound, towards Southend-on-Sea, near Goresbrook Interchange and Dagenham. The road was closed between the Ripple Road and the A1306 slip road, until the Rainham and Ferry Lane interchange. The westbound carriageway was not affected by the accident and remained open throughout the day. What happened? According to reports from the Metropolitan Police, the car, which was driven by the woman in her 70s, was being driven in the wrong direction on the A13 carriageway. Police received calls regarding the car driving the wrong way at around 1.45am, but before officers could arrive at the scene or locate the vehicle the crash had taken place. It is believed the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. Several ambulance teams rushed to the scene, as well as officers from Met Police and fire crews from London Fire Brigade. Victim named According to reports in Northern Cyprus, the man killed in the crash was Ruşit Ataoğlu, aged 40. He is believed to have been a relation of Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Tourism and Environment for the Northern Cypriot government. Companies House lists him as a former director of Mister Taxi Limited, based in Bethnal Green, East London, however some reports on social media have suggested that he was not actually working as a taxi driver at the time of the crash. Instead, it is believed he was working as a mechanic for a garage. Cabbies unite to share condolences Several taxi drivers took to social media to share their condolences for the male fatality, believed to be a London black cab driver. Many of those who did tweet responding to the sad news were cab drivers themselves. User @LDNCabbie said: "RIP thoughts are with the families involved," whilst @Robsblackcab wrote: "Terrible. Could have been any of us. My way home every day." One tweet, from @AndyCabby10, said: "Shocking. So sad. Came home on that stretch of road a couple of hours earlier as, I'd imagine, many other Cabbies did....tragic." "Dear God just seen the aftermath of horrific crash with London Taxi involved on the A13 eastbound just after Dagenham turn off. Feel sick pray all ok," said one witness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More tributes from family and drivers here: https://www.essexlive.news/news/essex-n ... ed-2383279 |

From this in the second link it looks like he's a mechanic and taxi proprietor and driving a taxi at the time of the crash, rather than a taxi driver. Essex Live wrote: A Just Giving page is set up
A Just Giving page has since been set up to help raise money for Ruşit's grieving family. The page reads: "This is for a man who sadly lost his life in a tragic road accident at 1.45am on New Year's Eve. "Although the man was not a black cab driver, he has been in the industry for many years and has worked with many cab drivers in many garages. |
