Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a shooting in a Sheffield street after a gun was fired at a taxi.

The taxi was shot at in Margate Drive, Pitsmoor, at around 9.35pm on Tuesday after pulling up in the street for a pre-booked fare.

South Yorkshire Police said a blue Audi pulled up alongside the taxi and a gun was fired at the vehicle.

The driver, whose window was shattered, escaped unharmed, but police said it is possible that his three passengers – men in their 20s - may have been hurt.

Enquiries are under way to trace the men.

Last night a 23-year-old man remained in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

Detective Inspector Lee Nesbeth, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Enquiries are ongoing and I would like to identify and speak to the passengers of the taxi who left the scene.

“There is a possibility that one, or more, of the occupants of the vehicle are injured and may need medical treatment.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 892 of October 29.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

So if the passengers have scarpered, even though one of them may be injured, I'm willing to stick my neck out and guess that it wasn't the driver who was targetted [-(

Very lucky, though, by the looks of it, and a tad scary, I suspect :-|

Bad enough with the current craze of throwing stones at taxi/PH.

This takes things to a new and crazy level.
