Post subject:  Council probing Brum driver who punched man over unpaid fare

This is on several different websites, but the Sun's version is maybe worth a look because the video doesn't blank the faces.

It's basically a mobile phone video shot in a coach station in Birmingham. An older guy takes a few swings at a younger guy and decks him. Apparently the older guy is a driver, and the dispute was over an unpaid fare.

But not entirely clear what happened and who's who. The Sun uses the term OAP, for example, but suspect this is just to spice the thing up, because I can't see any evidence that would confirm he's an OAP, other than that he's a bit older.

The Birmingham Mail's site says:

"West Midlands Police said it was a dispute over taxi fare but no complaints were made to them."

So police not interested, but whether the council might take a look at it is another matter.

And, of course, once these things are all over the papers (and the nationals in particular), then that might be when police and the council *do* take an interest.

now he will almost certainly be in trouble AND every ambulance chasing solicitor will be searching for the victim to encourage him to make a claim which means that "old boy" is probably facing a very tough time ahead

Well there's a surprise. Piece is mainly a rehash of the original story, so have just included the relevant bits below, which are quite brief.

Probe into footage of taxi driver fighting passenger at Digbeth Coach Station

The row allegedly broke out over a fare - licensing department to investigate

Birmingham City Council’s licensing department said it was now looking into the footage.

On Twitter a spokesman said: “We do not condone this kind of behaviour either towards or from our drivers. If this *is* one of our drivers, we will investigate and deal with it accordingly. Bilking is a serious issue for the trade, but violence is never the answer. #NoExcuses”

So violence towards us is OK then? Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Like everyone else we have the right to self defence, and can use self defence even if not attacked. Providing we can show we acted within reason to get in first.
