Have to visit the website to view the video to assess the thing properly, but methinks this guy is making a meal of it and is a wee bit full of himself He says it's terrible because his wife and kids could have been in the car, then says he wasn't worried about being hit because he's got a Ford Ranger pickup Cab driver made silly mistake, no doubt, but in the grand scheme of things not much in the way of imminent danger, I would say (I'm guessing it's a PHV with a roofsign.) Anyway, he's been reported to police and Sandwell Council have been informed, so we'll just have to see what happens. For context, the driver seems to be from a Sandwell-based firm, and the incident took place in Worcester, about 30 miles away. Had a look on Streetview and it's not entirely clear what's gone on, but entrance and exit to Premier Inn certainly not clear at all, and no obviously good signage. Looks like you kind of drive across a wide pavement to get in and out, and it's just beside a busy light-controlled junction, but certainly not clear at all. Driver shares moment taxi drove at him in New Road Worcester https://www.stourbridgenews.co.uk/news/ ... worcester/ Image: Stourbridge News THE video shows the moment a taxi drove towards oncoming traffic in a one-way city road. The vehicle, which had a Brookfleet sign on top, drove down New Road, Worcester, this morning. Sales manager Mark Eriksen captured the moment on his dashcam and has now reported the incident to West Mercia Police. Brookfleet, based in Rowley Regis, near Stourbridge, confirmed that the footage showed one of its drivers and said it had issued him with a warning. Mr Eriksen, who was driving home at the time of the near-miss, said: “I came around the corner from Hylton Road and I could just see this car in the distance. "I thought ‘those are headlights’. They were coming towards me and I started flashing at them. “I was swearing. It took the driver a couple hundred yards to realise what they were doing. There was a passenger in the car too.” Mr Eriksen’s video shows the taxi coming to a stop mere metres away from his vehicle and then turning around and driving back towards St John’s. The 47-year-old, of Bromwich Road, Worcester, questioned how the driver managed to get up the one-way road. He added: “I’ve never seen anything like it. My wife could have been in the car, or my kids. The driver is endangering lives. “You can’t get up that road without doing something really stupid. “It’s mindboggling that this person is allowed to drive around with people in their car. “How have they got a licence to drive the public around? I think they should be stripped of their licence.” The father-of-three, originally from Scotland, added that he was not worried about the taxi hitting his Ford Ranger pick-up truck. He said: “It’s a big bit of metal and I’d rather he hit me than a Toyota Yaris.” A spokesman for Brookfleet, based in Rowley Regis, near Stourbridge, said Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council had been informed about the incident. The driver had never driven around Worcester before and was sorry for his actions, according to the spokesman. They added that he had just left the Premier Inn at the time of the near-miss and realised he was going the wrong way, prompting him to turn around. Mark Eriksen (Image: Worcester News) |

having turned the wrong way he probably wasn't sure what to do but I doubt he would make that mistake again and i suspect the source of the news story was more interested in publicity than public safety |

Council investigate taxi going wrong way down Worcester road https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/17 ... ster-road/ A COUNCIL says it will launch an investigation into a taxi driving the wrong way down a city road. Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council confirmed that it would examine video of a taxi driving towards oncoming traffic in New Road, Worcester. Brookfleet Cars, based in Rowley Regis, near Stourbridge, confirmed that one of its drivers was involved in the incident, on Wednesday, and had been given an official warning. A company spokesman added that the driver had pulled out of the Premier Inn car park, realised he was going the wrong way and then turned around in New Road, before the near-miss took place. They said that the driver, who had never driven in Worcester before, was sorry for his actions. Councillor Elaine Costigan, cabinet member for public health and protection at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, said: “The taxi licensing team has been informed and will investigate the matter.” Sales manager Mark Eriksen captured the near-miss on his dashcam and reported the incident to West Mercia Police. He called for the driver to be stripped of his taxi licence as he was endangering lives. West Mercia Police was unavailable for comment. |

Quote: He called for the driver to be stripped of his taxi licence as he was endangering lives. The fella has made a mistake, something that I've done and no doubt most people who drive have. Yes give him a bollocking, but one silly mistake shouldn't mean he loses his livelihood. And shame on the numpty salesman for suggesting it.

Quote: West Mercia Police was unavailable for comment. No mention of police in this latest update, so presumably they're still unavailable for comment? But one of the comments below the piece maybe reflects the attitude of the sales manager who got uppity in the first place, and ran crying to the media and West Mercia Police, even though he wasn't worried about a collision because he was in his massive penis extension motor at the time So the latest commenter states that he was once fined for a similar incident, so because the taxi driver wasn't punished here proves that taxi drivers get off scot free. Aye, right, as if all members of the public who do this kind of thing are automatically punished

Your Sat Nav wasn't designed by Edinburgh City Council by any chance as yet another means for them to Milk the Motorist through fines, that place is needlessly crazy, they just hate all things Car...they Change the street access layouts almost weekly. |
