Not sure if this guy had been driving a cab while disqualified by the DVLA or what :?

Stoke-on-Trent taxi driver with 52 points on his licence 'refused to pick up disabled passengers' and had 'racial aggression' complaint

He has now been stripped of his licence

A cabbie with 52 points on his licence has been banned from picking up passengers because he 'presents a real and immediate danger to the public'.

Council licensing bosses heard he racked up the points on his DVLA licence over a number of years but failed to disclose them.

He also 'refused to pick up disabled passengers' and a complaint of 'racial aggression' was made against him.

Shockingly, the taxi driver failed to tell the Licensing Service he had been disqualified from the roads and showed a 'blatant disregard for the licensing conditions'.

The black cab and private hire driver's attitude to the licensing bosses was also brought into question, especially when he tried to talk down motoring offences that endangered the public - even while his own family were in the car.

They added that any driving conviction showed a lack of professionalism, but the number and nature of these convictions meant he was not a 'safe and suitable person' to continue to hold a licence.

The driver cannot be named because the hearings are held behind closed doors. If he appealed he could have been named but he chose not to.

He has now been stripped of both his Hackney Carriage and his Private Hire Vehicle Driver's Licence.

Councillor Randy Conteh, Stoke-on-Trent City Council's cabinet member for housing, communities and safer city, said: β€œThe safety and security of people who are travelling with taxi drivers licensed by the council is absolutely paramount.

"We only license fit and proper people to be taxi drivers, and do a lot of work to make sure residents can step into any taxi with confidence.

"However, when people are dishonest or do not declare driving bans, it makes our job more difficult.

"We will not tolerate dishonesty. We welcome the decision of the panel to immediately revoke the licence, and hope this sends out a clear message to all licenced drivers about the high standards the city council – and our residents – expect them to maintain.”

Does the council not regularly check driving license of its drivers ? And what about the police
liaisoning with the council in matters where a driver racks up so many points ?

Cannot understand why these meetings are held behind closed doors when they are definitely of public interest.

I think he was, he just didn't tell the council.

Totting up is a maximum of 6 months, and the points are wiped.

He did not tell the council about the ban. If it was already off his license it would not show on a DVLA check and driving convictions don't show on a DBS.
