A city taxi driver has been stabbed repeatedly in a horrific robbery.

The victim was knifed multiple times after refusing to hand over cash to two passengers inside his cab on Sunday night (March 31).

He had the two thugs inside his car on Gildas Avenue, Kings Norton when the brutal stabbing took place.

The pair demanded money from the driver, but he refused and instead got out of his taxi.

They followed him and he was stabbed several times before the vicious robbers made off in his vehicle.

The victim was rushed to hospital on blue lights and treated for multiple stab wounds.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of an assault on Gildas Avenue at 7.18pm on Sunday night, one ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene.

"On arrival, ambulance crews discovered one patient, a man, who had suffered multiple injuries in the incident.

"He received treatment at the scene before being transported to hospital on blue lights and sirens for further assessment.”

No arrests have been made and West Midlands Police is investigating.

The taxi was later recovered after being tracked to an address in Heathlands Grove, Northfield.

Officers urged anyone with information or who witnessed the attack to come forward.

A statement from the force read: "Police are investigating after a taxi driver was stabbed and had his car stolen on Gildas Avenue, Kings Norton between 6.30pm and 7.15pm yesterday (31 March).

"Two passengers in the taxi demanded money from the driver, when he refused and got out of the taxi they followed him and stabbed him several times, before driving off in his taxi.

"The car was later recovered from an address in Heathlands Grove, Northfield.

"The taxi driver was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

"CCTV is being recovered and investigations remain ongoing."
