Bet these people are popular with the neighbours. Hope they've got planning permission.

Nice bit of advertising though, as per...

A former RAF airman has swapped the cockpit for the driver’s seat to pioneer an eco-friendly taxi firm.

Zero Taxis, whose fleet has been on the roads for eight months, was founded by Leon Davies and Ashley Peacock, who saw a gap in the market for a 100pc electric taxi company.

They currently have 12 drivers and four Nissan Leafs, with the fifth on the way.

Mr Davies, the ex RAF aircraft technician and director of Zero Taxis, said: “In spring of last year I was working in Holland and was catching a lot of electric taxis like Nissan Leafs and Teslas.

“I started speaking to an electric taxi driver about how much he enjoyed driving them, how much he was saving in fuel and more importantly how much better it was for the environment.

“We are about 95pc off the grid, very rarely do you dip into the grid for personal use. We really have thought through the whole process to make sure we can be as green as we can.”

Mr Davies uses solar panels on the roof of his house to charge the firm’s cars and runs the call centre from his garden.

The Nissan Leafs which Zero uses have a 62kWh battery which costs between £7 and £8 to fully charge and goes from 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds.

Mr Davies said: “It is great that youngsters are switching on to the idea of electric cars. It is massively important to think about the ways you can cut emissions and your carbon footprint.”

Zero Taxis won the 2018-19 Eco Award for small/medium business, with the judges saying: “This initiative marks a big leap forward in sustainable transport in the city. The move towards hybrid taxis has been really encouraging, but running an all-electric fleet brings unique challenges, and Zero Taxis has done a great job showing what’s possible.”

Mr Davies said: “We were gobsmacked when we won the Eco Awards; for such a young company to win was brilliant.”

The Zero Taxi app will be available to the public in the next two months.

So they currently have three drivers per car.

One has to wonder when they have time to charge them up? :-k

But quite possibly the daughter doing a Tuesday morning shift, the brother-in-law doing a Saturday night, and his best mate working during his 6-week summer holidays as a teacher, sort of thing

But if he's using the solar panels on his roof to charge the motors, then probably good job that cars have plenty of down time - must take a couple of days just to recharge them

But if I'm wrong then I'll have to get some solar panels and a Nissan Leaf

Aye, that'll see them to the end of the street and back.

They can keep their Eco Warrior awards, I'd rather pick up the distant work and know I'll be able to get home before my Battery goes flat.

Emission-free taxi firm bought out by competitor

https://www.edp24.co.uk/business/abc-ta ... -1-6441863

Norfolk's first and only zero-emissions taxi firm has been bought out by a competitor.

Zero Taxi's six electric-only vehicles, and the brand, have been purchased by fellow Norwich firm ABC Taxis.

The buyout will see the former zero fleet now be branded as ABC Zero.

The two members of staff, as well as the drivers, at Zero Taxis have been taken on by ABC, which is based in Paddock Street, Norwich.

Zero Taxis was founded in 2018 by ex RAF aircraft technician Leon Davies.

On Facebook, Zero Taxis wrote: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support since our vision for a greener future started to become a reality. We would not be where we are without our team, our passengers and our supporters, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"Since being established we have become an award-winning company that have saved over 1000 tonnes of CO2 and it is now time to hand over to someone who has the same passion and drive for going green, as Zero does."

The post went on: "We are pleased to announce the purchase of Zero Taxis by ABC Taxis Norwich. You will see all drivers in their eco-friendly cars, in ABC uniform and with the same professional and friendly service."

Customers still wishing to book an electric car can do so by calling Zero Taxi's number - which will remain active.

Customers can also book and check for driver updates via ABC's app.

ABC Taxis already has a number of hybrid vehicles, and is hoping to graduate its entire fleet of more than 240 to be hybrid or electric in the future.

This month also saw ABC hit its mark of completing more than 100,000 journeys - having been booked or flagged more than 105,000 times.

Zero Taxis was 95% self-sufficient, having charged its vehicles from its own solar panels.

ABC confirmed that its intention was to continue this work as well as expanding its offering in the future.

It sounds sensible to have 3 drivers per car. Those who only have one or two drivers per car are probably making their drivers work too many hours. Two drivers a day, plus another to cover rest days and annual leave sounds right to me. :)
