Colchester Borough Council investigating taxi driver who was caught on CCTV defecating on the street

https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/colchester- ... -1-6008193

Licensing officers are investigating reports that a taxi driver stopped his car and defecated on a street in Colchester after CCTV footage has emerged of the incident.

The incident alledgedly happened on March 27 at 7.20am when a man driving a silver car pulled up outside of the back entrance of a social club in the Essex town, and relieved himself on the floor.

The incident was caught on the CCTV of Greenstead Social Club in Blackthorn Avenue and the driver was reported to Colchester Borough Council who say they are now planning to interview the culprit.

Michael Lilley, port-folio holder for planning, public safety and licensing, said that “action will be taken” to deal with the driver in question.

“It is absolutely disgusting,” he said.

“I don't know why someone thinks they can act like that.

“Because the borough council licensed him he is expected to act according to our code of conduct. Actions will be taken to deal with him.

“The owner of the club has asked for an apology because one of his bar staff had to clean it up later that day.

“We will be having a meeting with him next week and we will take action. It has not been decided yet but we may pass on our information to the police.”

A member of staff from the club said that they had to clean up the mess. They described this incident as “disgusting” and said that they would like an apology.

Since when do councillors decide what information police may or may not have?

Not sure where the video for this is, but the still capture is probably enough information

Sounds like the driver's in the s*** though :?

A TAXI driver could lose his licence or face a criminal conviction for having a poo break outside of a social club.

CCTV caught the Colchester cabbie reverse towards the back entrance of Greenstead Social Club, pull down his trousers and defecate on the floor.

The man now faces action from Colchester Council’s licensing team and potentially the police.

Licensing boss councillor Mike Lilley, who learnt of the video last week, said it is “horrible just thinking about it”.

He said: “It’s pretty disgusting to watch someone do that.

“The fact he’s also a licensed taxi driver, who’s working on behalf of Colchester Council for the public, this isn’t the sort of behaviour we’d expect, or expect from members of the public either.

Licensing officers are aware of who he is and he’ll be called in for questioning under caution about his antics.

“Bearing in mind people are fined for urinating in the street, and this is much worse, licensing will take a tough stance on it and it might be a criminal offence.”

It was Ray Martin, manager of the social club, who had to clean up the driver’s mess when he left it last month.

The video has been shared online and Colchester Council identified the driver by his car license plate.

Mr Lilley said: “The consequences all depend on his past history.

“Fines work on a points system so if he’s already acquired some points on his licence and is given more, then he could have his licence suspended or taken away, so we will have to wait and see.

“It would also be nice for the driver to pop into the social club and apologise to the person who had to clean up his mess after him."

Cameras caught the man at about 7.20am but he did not appear to be a man in a rush, club manager Ray said, who has been criticised by some people for sharing the video online.

He said: “We thought it was dog mess until we looked at CCTV so it was quite a shock to us.

“I’ve not read any of the comments on Facebook but as for people giving me stick - am I worried? No.

“My argument is, there’s a Tesco just down the road.

“If he had got caught short doing a number one, it wouldn’t have bothered me, but it was right by the gateway.”

After trying to track down the taxi driver himself, Ray reported the incident to the council just days after, he explained.

He would like an apology but realises this might be difficult now the video has gone public.

“What’s done is done. I’ve left it to the council to deal with,” Ray added.

Not much here other than that the driver has been suspended.

And the usual blather about drivers being 'ambassadors' and that the council is doing an enormously fantastic job in licensing the trade

Cabbie caught defecating in street suspended by council

https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/colchester- ... -1-6061349

A taxi driver who was caught on CCTV defecating on the street outside a social club in Colchester has been suspended from work for 28 days.

The incident allegedly happened on March 27 at 7.20am when a man driving a silver car pulled up outside the back entrance of a social club in the Essex town and relieved himself on the floor.

It was caught on the CCTV of Greenstead Social Club in Blackthorn Avenue and the driver was reported to Colchester Borough Council who then interviewed the driver.

The man has now been suspended from work for 28 days.

Councillor Mike Lilley, portfolio holder for communities, wellbeing and public safety, said: "Following an investigation by licensing officers the taxi driver was given, and is continuing to serve, a 28-day suspension.

"We expect the highest standards from our licensed drivers, who in effect work on behalf of the council for the public.

"They are ambassadors of the borough and this isn't the sort of behaviour we expect; nobody wants bad behaviour from our licensed drivers to be the impression residents and visitors have of Colchester.

"The council does a tremendous job as a licensing authority and the public can be reassured that any breaches of the regulations by drivers or lack of decent standards that are reported to us will be investigated and appropriately dealt with."

A member of staff from the club said that they had to clean up the mess. They described this incident as "disgusting" and said that they would like an apology.
