Three men have been arrested after a taxi driver was reported to have been kidnapped in Hove yesterday (Monday 22 April).

The cabbie was allegedly taken to cash machines to draw out money.

A police chase followed – and ended with three men being arrested in Graham Avenue, Portslade.

Sussex Police said: “At about 5.45pm on Monday (22 April), police were called to a report of a robbery involving a taxi driver in Portland Road, Hove.

“Officers pursued the vehicle to Graham Avenue in Mile Oak, where three suspects were arrested.

“A 21-year-old man, of no fixed address, arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug (cannabis), remains in custody at this stage.

“A 21-year-old man from Hove, arrested on suspicion of robbery and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug (cannabis), remains in custody at this stage.

“A 21-year-old man from Southwick, arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (cannabis) and obstructing a police officer, remains in custody at this stage.”

North Portslade Labour councillor Peter Atkinson, who has been campaigning about anti-social behaviour, said: “Although the arrests were made in Graham Avenue, in Mile Oak, this isn’t linked to any ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area.”

If the vehicle was on a circuit the police would have been able to track the vehicle wherever it went.

The area where the vehicle was stopped was out in the sticks a bit, so the driver was very lucky.

Let's hope the scroats get the sentence they deserve.

So presumably the driver has pressed some sort of panic button, and the circuit has tracked his movements and fed the information to police??

From memory it's part of the licensing conditions for PH operators to have such a panic button system.

It would feed to the ops base, who would feed it to the police and other drivers near by.

And of course it will all be on CCTV. :D

Another couple of spanners in Greater Manchester - thought they could repeat the same trick on consecutive days, but things didn't quite go to plan:

Taxi driver attacked with hammer and machete after being called to Trafford

Police say two people have been arrested following the incident in Flixton

A taxi driver was attacked with a machete and hammer after being called to a house in Trafford.

Police say two people have been arrested following the incident in Flixton.

Officers told how the taxi driver was called to an address on Irlam Road.

There the offenders opened the front doors and began to attack the driver with weapons.

It's not thought his injuries were life threatening.

During the robbery they stole £100 before running off. The car was also damaged.

On the GMP Trafford North Facebook page, officers said: "Two offenders have been arrested in connection to a robbery on a taxi driver on Irlam Rd, Flixton.

"They have called for a taxi from an address and as the taxi pulls up, the two open the drivers door and the front passenger door and attack the driver with a machete and a hammer.

"They steal £100, damage his taxi and then run off.

"The following day, the same taxi company receive a call for a taxi from the same location with the voices sounding similar.

"They alert us and officers attend.

"Two offenders matching the same description for the previous robbery are detained and are found to be in possession of a hammer and machete.

"Great arrest. The offenders aren't from the Trafford area."

How could anyone be so monumentally stupid to try something like that two days running? And I mean there were two of them - you'd think at least one of them would have realised... #-o
