Taxi driver attacked and takings stolen by 'erratic' passengers

A taxi driver was attacked and had his takings stolen by two "erratic" passengers when he asked them to get out his vehicle.

Today detectives issued CCTV images of two men they believe may have information to help their robbery investigation.

The ugly scenes happened when the victim picked up a fare from Gorsey Lane in Wallasey .

Merseyside Police said the victim had money stolen and was attacked after he asked two male passengers to leave "due to them behaving erratically".

He was left with minor injuries as a result of his ordeal which happened around 5.35am on Sunday, April 7 a spokesman said.

The men ran off on Poulton Road in the direction of Central Park, Wallasey.

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: "We think the two men pictured may have information to assist this investigation.

"If you recognise them, let us know. "This was an unprovoked assault of a taxi driver going about his business."

He added: "Although his injuries were thankfully not more serious, this would have been a distressing experience, and we will act on all information to bring those responsible to justice."
