Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Hull thread about no-go areas, or the one about another driver threatening to quit the trade, or whether to bother with it at all, but here it is anyway in its own shiny new thread.

Now all we need is a 'lady' driver to tell us that her windows have never been smashed :-s

North Hull taxi driver wants to quit because of 'ruthless' yobs

Ali Al-Khamys has been in the trade for 11 years - but he could soon quit as a cabbie once and for all

A taxi driver is on the verge of quitting the trade for good after his car was smashed up by yobs for the fourth time in a year.

Ali Al-Khamys was devastated to wake up on Tuesday and find that his car had been broken into. Nothing valuable was stolen and although the 44-year-old’s vehicle is insured he is sick of having to keep paying the excess on his insurance for his window to be replaced.

Mr Al-Khamys, who lives in Endike Lane, north Hull, said: “The first time it was a year ago, the second time was last August, the third was a month ago and the fourth was on Monday night.

“I feel as though maybe I’m being targeted but I know it has happened to another taxi driver and one of my neighbours further up.

“Every time I need to pay £100 excess and I lose out on work waiting for the repairs to take place. You expect to be dealing with drunk people when you’re picking up fares but not this.”

Mr Al-Khamys, who works for 35 Taxis, has been a cabbie for 11 years but he is now beginning to question his future in the trade following the spate of frustrating break-ins.

He said: “It has made me think ‘should I leave this job?’ But then I think what can I do? It makes me angry and it’s just stupidity and ruthless what these people are doing.

“We are losing our income and we can’t do our jobs when this happens. I’ve been in this job for 11 years and I think how can I pay my bills when I can’t do my job?”

Mr Al-Khamys’ woes comes after one taxi boss banned his drivers from taking fares in Orchard Park after a series of senseless attacks on drivers and their vehicles.

Peter Nilsson, chairman of the Hackney Carriage Association, prohibited his cabbies from visiting the area, prompting a meeting with police to discuss issues in Orchard Park.

Humberside Police Superintendent Simon Gawthorpe said: “We are investigating incidents reported to us recently about taxis being damaged on Orchard Park and we’re working with the taxi firms to both address their issues and look at how we can work with them.

“Officers are meeting with the chair of Hull’s Hackney Carriage Association on Wednesday, April 24. Two incidents reported to us recently were on Thorpepark Road where a vehicle was damaged, and on Dane Park Road on Saturday where a taxi windscreen was cracked because a group of teenagers had thrown a stone at the cars.

“Fortunately the drivers were not injured, but they were shaken and could not continue with their work as the damage to their vehicles had to be repaired.”

“We will not accept this kind of antisocial behaviour. It can be extremely dangerous. It is a crime and we will find those responsible."

either the first time they got lucky and the same offenders are targeting a car where they did well before or someone has a bit of a grudge

I wonder if the first two times there was money or valuables left in the car.

If so that's why the third and fourth time happened.
