A drunk woman was locked up for attacking a cabbie, smashing his glasses and hitting him again when he left his taxi.

Tanya Lee clambered into the front of the cab during the incident on Maid Marian Way, leaving the victim with a cut nose and needing hospital tests after the incident on Saturday, April 27.

A 32-week prison term was imposed on Lee of Lime Tree Road, Hucknall, who appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

She admitted assault by beating, and also racially aggravated threatening behaviour at a shop three days earlier.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, told the court that Lee, 38, became aggressive soon after getting into the taxi on Canal Street. Because she was drunk, she gave him different destinations while sitting in the back seat.

The taxi driver stopped on Maid Marian Way and asked her to get out.

"The defendant would not leave, telling him to drive," said Mr Jerath. "He again asked her to leave but she climbed from the rear into the passenger seat.

"He was scared because of her behaviour. He did not know what she was going to do. He said that if she doesn't go, 'I will call the police.'

"She became even more aggressive and started punching him, swinging both arms.

"She punched him several times and smashed his glasses. He didn't fight her and tried to get away.

"She got out of the passenger door and walked round, then said 'I am going to kill you'."

After the incident, the taxi driver was taken to hospital for X-rays and a CT scan. He was left with a small cut to the bridge of the nose.

On April 24, Lee was outside the Bestwood Stores on Bestwood Road, Hucknall. She was already banned from entering and made a racist remark when told that the police would be called, added Mr Jerath.

Helen Nicholson, mitigating, told the court that Lee has health problems and currently does not have a prescription to control them.

"She is self-medicating with alcohol. She has very little recollection of the incident with the taxi driver and she doesn't recall using racially abusive language," said Miss Nicholson.

The court heard that Lee was already on a suspended prison term at the time. Miss Nicholson added: "She has probably lost her nine lives."

District Judge Leo Pyle pointed out that the suspended term was only imposed on April 4 and ordered her to pay £200 compensation to the cabbie.

"You clambered over into the passenger seat, punched and threatened him," said the judge.

He also banned her from going to the shop for two years.
